Yeah, well, no.....
they both suffered from somewhat bad timing but that alone feels like proof enough that either studio did not know about the other show..... but they are otherwise pretty different from each other. I think most people probably haven't even watched all of both shows to even make the comparison. Recommended reading: neopuff.tumblr.com/post/385940…
Most people who do consider it so, or vice versa, probably haven't even figured that animation that has only 5-4 months between their airings times can't....... possibly be rip-offs. TV animation just takes too long to produce(toughly 9-10 months) for anyone on the production teams to have time to rip-off any other currently in production shows. Plus I know that JLee already had 2 seasons confirmed before it aired in May 2005.... so really, when was this ripping off supposed to occur?
The things they do actually have more in common are writers who are roughly in the same generation and so, have been inspired by similar things, like Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and other 90s-70s American pop culture, which isn't that bad but kind of makes everything similar to each other......
Like I guess the only reason these shows are similar at all is because they were both produced in America from creators who had similar interests/ sources of inspiration.
Both these shows get too much flack for being similar and that just plain sucks. Even weirder is seeing all this lowkey racism? As if it's bad that there's two interesting shows with Chinese-American leads....... It's nice to see people like both shows and both characters though and appreciate either show for what that show actually is.
