"I am still haunted by the screams of terror and pain of my companions as they fell prey of the revenants while I fled. I swam through the swamps like a madman. Fighting against the mud, the weeds and the fatigue. Their screams filled the bayou as they filled my head. I finally was able to reach the shore, rushing out of the water, clutching the roots of the nearby trees. The thought of lying there was tempting until curiosity struck. I watched as the boat was devoured by the fog then I saw it. The mask rising out of the murky water and its wearer. An image forever printed in my head."-
The Mask was a story I had started to write 7 years ago about a group of people stranded on an old abandonned steamboat shipwrecked in the middle of the swamps. The story revolved around an old weird looking gas mask pinned to a boarded window and the events surrounding it. It was inspired by how eerie gas masks are and that old idea that scared me of what may hide underneath the surface of swampy thick water. Until this year I was never able to draw it faithfully to what I had imagined so here it is! Enjoy 😊

I so like as the dynamics in this picture is shown - the creature as if has just emerged from the water and is looking directly at the viewer. It is very creepy. And it will be interesting to learn the continuation of the story about him.

Thank you!! I worked a lot on the effect of the water on the creature to give that idea and same for the eyes of the gas mask, I wanted it to be a creepy/unnerving presence. Yeah well I haven't yet decided of the continuation of this story. The first draft of the story was to be focused on a night spent by the group on the wreckage of the steamboat and that idea of the mask that had nothing to do there, the growing paranoia and the reveal of the creature at the end. Who knows? Maybe one day I will finish it!

Thank you so much!! Haha I don't know if wordsmith is appropriated since I believe I write pretty dulll stories and butcher the language with my drawings, nonetheless it is really kind to read this type of feedback! It kinda motivates me to write more stories haha
