The best part of being a photographer is that you're always up for surprises. And even in zoos, you can be surprised by what you might see - even if the animal in question is part of the zoo's collection.
This stunning Wattled Jacana was in a high spot, and it looked so beautiful I don't think we'd ever consciously seen one before.
Species: Wattled Jacana (Leljacana)
Latin name: Jacana Jacana
Originates from South America.
Current status: Least Concern

…In all Jacanas, the males takes responsibility of the incubation of the eggs, with two eggs held between the wing an d the breast.
…Female Jacanas are polyandrous – they will breed with several males and protect the nests of up to four mates.
…Juvenile Jacanas can always be identified by the presence of white in their plumage.
