Marta Kristen said that this was one of her favorite episodes, as she was able to play a villain. This and her visit to Hades are two of the best episodes in the series. It is such a shame that this marvelous and lovely actress was shuffled to the background in favor of the Smith/Robot/Will trio.

Yes, so much potential in the show, but it got labeled a "Kid's Show" quick, and Irwin Allen embraced that and never let go. So what ever happened to "Plant Judy"? Did they chop her up and make a salad of her? There is a
fan-fic there somewhere.

Brilliantly done. Loved the series. it is what I watched with my dad growing up
Getting ready for church. Brought back the nostalgia side in me. They just don't create shows like that anymore. In my opinion. You are a tremendous talent.

Thank you for the kind words. I grew up with the series in it's original run. An dNO they don't create series like this anymore basically because MOST TV watchers just would not watch them.

It helps to see it when you're like 5 yaers old and it's 1965. With all the fancy Cg effcets in TV today, poor old LIS pale sin comparison. But it was state of the Art in '65

being younger does help, however being able to appreciate the show and the memories of watching it on sunday mornings with my brother overcomes the lack of cg and all the bells and whistles that current show have.
some (not all) of he story lines are interesting. I did not see all the episodes back then, and with all of them being on hulu to watch fro free, that is what i am watching on my spare time now, but thanks for sharing that picture.

I HAD them on DVD, but due to a year long stretch of unemployment, my wife sold off a huge chunk of our rather substantial DVD collection to raise some funds and sadly my LIS DVD sets were part of the purge. All my classic 60s TV SF is now gone. We still have a moderately large DVD collection, but is all just pedestrian stuff that I probably couldn't give away, let alone sell.

I really wished they did more with Judy. (Not to mention Betty from LOTG) I always had this image of her being more of the "pioneer resourcefulness" sibling. Judy was the tomboy who learned outdoor things from John like spearfishing and such. While Will and Penny were the brainy ones Judy was the more physically skilled one.
I always like to imagine that while John and Don repaired the ship...and Maureen kept house...and the other four kids, (Will, Penny, Smith and the Robot), got into trouble, Judy would be off on her own foraging for food and such. She was the huntress of the expedition.

MJBivouac In reply to Dave-Dreamer [2010-08-04 00:35:33 +0000 UTC]
Too bad they didn't do more with all of the characters.
But I must disagree...I think Penny, while obviously smart, maybe not as smart as Will, was much more the tomboy, especially in the first season. She actually got a bit more girly in seasons 2 and 3. She seemed to emulate Will more than Judy...who in my opinion was dragged along on the voyage out of dedication to the family much more than because of any interest in space exploration...but maybe a bit of interest in Don West. She would have probably been a lot more happy with a life on Earth. If you have ever seen the unaired LIS pilot, it is revealed that Judy had put on hold a promising career in the musical comedy field. Judy was an aspiring Broadway star!
And LOTG, VTTBOTS, TT, all suffered from the same problems as LIS, cardboard characters. But Irwin Allan saw these shows as strictly running and jumping shows, and the kids who watched were not interested in romance or character development.

Man, just from looking at this, I've got the music stuck in my head. The original Bernard Hermann score and the John Williams one from the later seasons. Ah, pleasant! Thanks for unlocking the music with your Prismacolors!

Ha Ha! A lot of people are telling me the same thing! This art is conjuring up old memories for them. How cool is that!? Most people seem to prefer the 3rd season opening theme, but I have always prefered the 1st and 2nd season opening theme. Of course, the "borrowed" Hermann themes from the Day the Earth Stood Still, and Journey To The Center Of The Earth were very well used in LIS. Also the theme used for the jetpack scenes was originally from "Beyond the 12 Mile Reef". And I think that piece of music works BETTER in LIS than in BT12MR.

Give it a try. I'm not saying you'll get Norman Rockwell results the first time out of the chute, but good art is often times a result of using good reference. And work out your composition and likeness on tracing paper ot vellum first! Make you mistakes on that kind of paper, THEN you can start your work on your good paper, and not have to worry about making mistakes and having to erase anything.
