I used to get "freak" too. Not anymore, though... at least, not that I'm aware of. That's what's great about being in art school. Everyone's a freak.

I start with a positive print the same size as the 35mm film you get for your camera. With that little positive, I do the stuff you see on the final prints (stitches, wrinkles, rips...), then put that into an enlarger to make a bigger negative. That's why all the extra stuff is enlarged along with the actual image. Then I use the negative I made to make the final print that you see.
