Description Davy Jones .... 28 hours

Photographed by , Paul Arellano Studios

Iwata hp-ch

Badger Spectra Tex paint test - very nice paint, sprays alot cleaner than createx , and very concetrated , i reduced most of my paints 500% and was still very concentrated. Went to 1500% and still has alot of saturation. I for sure recomned this paint for any airbrusher. You will be happy 100% !!!!!

Also, I love your icon. Gene Wilder was and is the best Willy Wonka.

nice , i keep meaning to ask, are you self taught? also with the paints, if you can you should get your paints through airbrush focus (unfortunately they may only operate in australia :/) they actually produce inks specially for airbrush use, this means that they have actually done the research into ink technology so that you dont have to water down the ink etc as well as increasing their longevity and other things

MikeLangston In reply to fishy36 [2009-12-18 15:54:53 +0000 UTC]

Hey fish how ya doing bro ? Yea im self taught ... thanks for the info , ive never liked to spray inks , ive shot a few diffrent types but never cared for them. But thanks alot , ill keep my eyes open for the name brand and try it if i see it. Im always down to try new things ! Thanks alot !

doing great, just finished a 2 week job for my airbrush instructor working on the silvers circus fold-out food van with him and some other people, i checked and airbrush focus only work in australia, so if u know someone here then you could get them to order from them and then get stuff sent to you but otherwise there isnt any way of getting their products, which is a pitty as they have damn good stuff in stock.
and jst commenting on ur being self taught, for a self taught airbrush artist your work is amazing, usually a lot of self taught people produce work in the "traditional" style of airbrushing, the soft looking stuff from the 60's billboards kindof thing, your work actually has many varying focal values which is a nice surprise from much of the usually fuzzy work that i find, the only reason i twigged to u mabye being self taught is that u take a long time on most pictures (sorry but 28 hours for the davy jones picture is a pretty long time :/ ), if ur ever in australia take a look at airbrush venturi courses they teach photo-realistic rendering anyway sorry for the long post have to go now, look forward to seeing more of your work (also how long have you been airbrushing for?)

MikeLangston In reply to fishy36 [2009-12-23 06:03:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the info , ill keep my eyes open for those products, its suprizeing what i come arcoss from time to time. I havent really seen much inretest in the workshops, if i were to pay money to learn to paint it would have to be the dru-blair courses. The people ive talked to have came back with amazing works and there styles has changed tremendously. But ive been airbrushing for about 5 years now. When i started i sucked bad , people would always hassle me , and tell me to pratice pratice pratice. annoying as shit ... but in the long run it paid off. Thanks alot for the intrest and comments !! If you ever need any tutorials , or resources , vectors. let me know ...

fishy36 In reply to MikeLangston [2010-01-08 11:47:12 +0000 UTC]

thanks, yeah airbrushing just takes practice... lots of practice, when i started in early 2008 i was really really bad , and thanks for the offer im always looking for cool reference images and stencils (licence free stuff though else there can be legal problems :/) and from what ive seen of ur images you dont need to attend a workshop, i was just suggesting that if ur ever in australia u should get in touch with airbrush venturi and check out a class sometime www.airbrushventuri.com.au i reckon u'd enjoy talking to the people attending (its always great to talk to people who know what your talking about ) anyway, cheers thanks for the offer to help, like i said any free images you find, just send me a link if you have time thanks and look forward to seeing more artworks

haha, yes, i've heard of daniel power, my teacher had him as an apprentice for a couple of years (though daniel doesnt admit it apparently) his work is pretty good though looking at his site, it appears that his course is a cut-down version of the one i did, i also met a guy who took his course (and had been a sign righter for about half his life) then came and did the airbrush venturi course and he basicaly said that in comparison daniel powers course didnt come close, still it may have gotten better since then (abt 5 months ago) basicaly all the courses can teach you though is that there are only 8 things you can do with an airbrush (that being; dot, line, lifting dot, lifting line, half dot and half line) and then theres just teaching you how to create effects like skin texture, break down a photo to paint it and color mixing anyway, it would be great to get some tribal stuff (if not copywrite of course ) or any other stuff you can give me as that stuff looks great as tempory tatoos, as long as it aint copywrite and you feel comfortable sending it to me my emails fishy.36@hotmail.com then just leave a message on DA and ill check my email, (dont check it ussually cos of junk email) anyway, sorry for leaving another long message but it takes a while to say thing sometimes have fun airbrushing
