Description This is my new fantasy painting "The Passage". I really enjoyed working on this piece, as the canyon became more detailed, more fantasy like and as the piece changed a couple of times while working on it. I think I like the outcome
And I wonder what lies behind this canyon...

A print of it will soon be available, and I've prepared two wallpapers for you, so you can have this on your desktop if you like it

The Passage - 1600x1200
The Passage - 1280x1024

Enjoy!

Lord of the Rings? I think it's more like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
Aber das gibts erst seit 2007! Diebstahl!

You seem to be quite special around here on DA, and even with Lori! Thank you for all that you've done for this community. Your graphics truly stand out. Lori and I are quite well connected.

She's far more social (and talented!) than I ever hope to be, but maybe some time (some day) you and I can work together on a master plan...An art piece so big and intricate that the Internet will faint!

May I ask you the most important question in existance? (Yes, I'm really asking this.)

I'm not going to try to influence you either way. I just want to know. You seem to have a lot of wonderful things going on in your art, and that is what makes me think to ask this question that I have not yet asked.

to express yourself and to achieve something, something that shows yourself, something that will make people think of you and hopefully in a good way

Royce-Barber In reply to memod [2007-11-28 02:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Lemme summarize that, with a little twist: 'To achieve personal expression in which shows your passions in a good light, and makes people remember and think on your elegance.'

Personally... I feel quite similar about the meaning of life. The only big difference being, I hope to not be remembered whatsoever. I want the causes I support to be remembered. I want my actions to spread seeds of good things, rather than any particular action being huge. I don't wish to be big or noticed. I wish to serve my God and my country in a big way, a larger way than normal, but not in a way that glorifies me at all.

I have a feeling that you and I are quite similar in many ways.

hehe, I guess I just see things in a somewhat less religious way I guess I mean what I said more in the sense of my art and music...it would be nice to contribute to something...to be part of larger projects with my art, and to make people feel good when listening to my music. or perhaps even just feel. there's no need for my name to be hovering above everything in big letters, but I won't mind being connected to the things that I do, either

Stellar work,
Another of your pieces to use your masterful gift with rendering scale.
And the elements of mystery and escapisim work excelently with the visual images.
Really great work!

Wonderful work. I love how everything is so subtle, like the light bouncing off the rocks, and the birds flying over the ship. I also like the way you've added a few trees in the foreground. The only critique I have is about the water, the surface isn't flat, and it looks a little weird, especially on the right side. Apart from that it's a very nice piece of artwork, and kind of reminds me of Lord of the Rings

This is a truely awesome piece. From the rocks, to the ship, to the bridge... One or two things maybe. Since there are trees in the forground, maybe add a little greenery to the rocks in other parts of the picture? Just a thought

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

memod In reply to Groundbase [2005-09-14 20:21:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot for your nice comment, your suggestions and the fav
As for the greenery... I am not sure if it would really fit into the piece to actually have green. The blue here pretty much defines the atmosphere. And since the distance towards the rocks is growing rather fast, you wouldn't really see any small plants or grass (If I painted it anyway, it would lessen the scale of this piece). I see your point, but in my opinion the silhouettes of the trees just indicate that in the parts the ship has already passed, might have been some green, some trees, and now they kind of step aside and reveal the sight at the canyon

Thank you though, I appreciate your thoughts

I think it's good idea to link the bigger versions of picture. when it's small, you can see whole composition in one sight, but when you like it, you want to see the details. therefore on my disc is saved the biggest drawing yes, your sollution is great.
