Description
I've finally finished a new painting, started this about a week ago, but I didn't look at the pure work time.well, I wanted to create a scenery in some old building which is looking somewhat deserted, hence the title.....the only living thing there being this lonely old monk wandering around there... and of course the bird.

I finally took a closer look at your gallery and aside from the one I've already faved, I like this piece the most.
I really like the colors and the way you've painted the light. It feels like the viewer is standing in the dark looking at the monk who walks into the light. That gives it a little religious touch - not a obvious but a hidden one.
But I must say I don't like the bird. It's hard to tell why but I think it's not necessary. But well, that's just my opinion.
Anyway, it's a wonderful piece with a deep atmosphere.

beautiful painting Dan - I really like how you've painted the light here; the bright yellows and oranges give it a really warm feeling, while the purple and pinks towards the left of the painting give a nice sense of depth

Gorgeous. When I first saw this in your gallery I thought it was a traditional painting. I was like WOAH he is a great digital artist, photographer AND painter. I'm still blown away though and can truely see why you got DD, congratulations.

auch sehr schön ! hat ne tolle atmosphäre wegen dem nebelartigem licht das von den fensterbögen einfällt und dem vogel der so einsam und ungestört vor dem mönch sitzt der sich den scheinbar endlos langen gang entlang quält

There is magic in this painting. I love your chiruscuro sort of hazing the monk into light and mist. It is a simplistic painting, but there is enough detail to perfectly convey your emotion. Very lovely work sweetie!

OOO. Very nice composition. I agree that I like the lighting as it ranges from those lovely warms to the cools as you enter furtheer into the building, thus really adding to the feeling of something slowly wasting away from the inside out. Bright on the surface and cold and lonely inside. Very poignent. My only problems with this piece? I agree that the beams look a bit comfusing and I was at a loss about the bird until I realised he was supposed to be closer to us and lost in shadow. His placement on the sillouted beams which are then quickly lost in shadow, leaves him looking like he's sitting on the floor with a strange sort of drop shadow effect going on. If you want to keep him there, then that's great as I enjoy that he's looking after the old monk, but you might want to do something to separate him a bit further. I think adding some highlights to him will really help define where he is in this piece.
Other than that, you have a lovely range of colors here and I just can't say enough how much I like those cools in contrast. I am drawn to that more than anything and I like that you kept the architectural details soft and faded but placed the bold blacks in there to break up the space.

yes, I like it so much! I love your style, it's so clear, neat and distinct. you did very well with details (monk, bird), and light areas are perfectly drawn. I have also one little association. this interior resembles me so much the church from 'The name of the rose', and that's way your artwork has special place in my mind.

as for those "x"-shaping pieces you meant, they are not lying at the bottom, but standing upwards, but I see your point with the lack of an highlight
