I disagree ! He made such a butcher botch of "The Empty House" - miscarried as "The Empty Hearse" on 1-19-'14, that I turned off the set after 32-34 minutes of the 2-hrΒ botch .
Mumbled dialogue, askew camera work, cuts & jumps right and left. He seems to have progressively gotten weirder & weirder in his series, and I won't watch any more of it. I'll read the books.
Were it not for the Closed Captioning, I would have turned off the set afterΒ 5-6 minutes, not 32-34.
In the old days, actors spoke clearly and crisply, not the mumbling they do now.

You're entitled to your opinion, as am I.
I would like to point out that I don't see how the actor could possibly be blamed for askew camera work, and cuts & jumps. He has no influence on any of that. Might I also mention that actors hold themselves to the scripts, so if Sherlock's character changes in the script, it will change in the series, as portrayed by Benedict. Additionally, because you haven't seen the entire third series (let alone the first episode in its entirety) you have missed out on vital information in character progression. Did you think that they would pick up and would be the exact same people as they were two years earlier? A lot happens in two years, and doing dangerous undercover work while your best friends think you're dead really does change a person. Thus the character, in the series. It would've been rather unbelievable had they not changed.
Oh, and English is my second language, yet I had no issues whatsoever with any of their speech.
Lastly, do read the books. Regardless of whether you watch the show or not. The show uses aspects of the books, but is obviously not the same, as it set in modern-day London, not in the Victorian era. The storylines in the series are obvious nods towards the books, but do not follow those exact storylines. It's a whole different media.
But like I said, we're both entitled to our opinions. I merely felt like a response was necessary to explain my viewpoint.

Were I doctor Watson, be it modern day or Victorian London, I would firmly inform Sherlock that he is NOT invited to the wedding. If he shows up, Watson should phone the police and have him arrested & charged with menacing, stalking and threatening the life of his wife (his proximity would draw criminals who may attack and...). That's my feeling.
I might also add attempted alienation of affection, as the fiancΓ© expressed fascination with Sherlock.
I have poor hearing, and even with a hearing aide, people still have to speak clearly, like in the old 30's and 40's movies. Now they mumble, curse and make violent threats all the time !

I must say that your technique is mindblowing! As a drawer i have to concede that his face is simply the biggest inspiration I've come across in recent years. Had a go at drawing him a few times and each and every time it feels like im capturing a completely different person. He has such an expressive face. Maybe you'd like to take a peek? This picture is drawn beautifully.
The real photograph of this makes Benedict Cumberbatch look almost dead on my piano teacher!
It's creepy...

That's great to hear, thank you! I guess it's what I try to achieve in a way, photo-like yet when you look closer you can clearly see it's a drawing.

Uuuuuuuh I just overdosed on happiness upon seeing this. I could go on about the wonderful-ness of this piece, but everything I wanna say has been said by other commenters (ie the amazing details, the shading, the drool-factor) My main adoration is his eyes...he has such beautiful, expressive eyes, and you captured them perfectly. He is truly one of the best actors I have ever encountered. Excellent job, my dear, well done! Faved!
