Awesome! I love it (one of my favorite fairy tales) and thanks for not making the wolf look mean--they get too much crap placed on them (save the wolves!!)

This is just a gorgeous piece, I love the coloring you have chosen, it fits wonderfully with the storybook/fairy tale quality of the image.

I'm not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, so I don't know the technical work that goes into a piece like this, but from a simple viewer...I say this is a pleasure to look at.

I've just stumbled upon your gallery and I'm utterly captivated. You have that wonderful ability of drawing the viewer's imagination into your art (well, for me, certainly). Stunning.

Thank you, it means a lot to me to know my work is getting across to people at that level. I tend to paint for myself, and then wonder if it will translate and speak to someone else. I hope so

I may not be the most credible critic I don't draw or paint... I can only give my honest impression. Okay that said, I love the coloring, plenty of detail. The background seems to go on forever!!! The wolf is great! And Red Riding Hood is darling...but I'm not sure what it is...something about her face. Maybe it's her eyes... they just strick me as odd.

You know, I can't remember the last time I saw you using hard outlines. It works beautifully here - it clearly defines the vines (and leaves) as the border for the picture. Beautiful colours, and there's plenty of detail to be occupied with.

Hi Far, thanks for the comment

Welll...I used hard edges on Fairy Tale I (the Thumbelina painting) and a bit on the 'turtle with wings' painting. I think this style suits fairy tale illustration for some reason. Must be all those nouveau inspired pics I remember from childhood books

Thank you I had a bit of struggle getting the expression on the wolf just right. He started out looking like a happy family pet at the beginning, not right for this at all!

I love the colorful birds, they seem to add so much to the picture. I also love the one tree in the very back, basking in the sunlight. Lovely.

Thank you...I think the birds were my favourite bit of work on this I love birdies. And I thought it was a bit stark without them...

Yeah, the light on the tree...I wanted to give the feeling that if she had just continued on a bit further, everything would have been ok. Her mom DID tell her not to stop or go off the path, poor dear!

What a wonderful illustration. The wolf looks decidedly wicked with that gleam in his eye and those teeth, just poking out. The birds are so sweet and cheery and so well done. Love the woodlands and her costuming. She looks day dreamily innocent and vulnerable.

MBoulad In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2007-08-30 11:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Sandi I guess I'm looking at this character from the perspective of a 'mom' rather than how a child might view her. I feel sorry for her, so unaware of the danger...poor child. The birds were just a delicious little bit of fun, I love painting them so much...and the upper corner looked so bare without them
