Description Artemis, with her hunting dogs and the Golden Hind.

The peregrine falcon has just risen off her shoulder, perhaps they have sighted something of interest.

The birds in the tree are rock doves, the origin of our 'est' pigeons. They're included as a comment. I don't have time to write it though And I don't think I want to anyway. Make of it what you will

Thanks to =skydancer-stock for providing lovely reference at .[link] (note, nudity if it bothers you). And thanks to *Future-Art-Magazine for giving me incentive to finally finish this. Sometimes I just need a good push to tie up loose ends

I honestly could have dragged this out for a few more months, but it was just selfishness on my part that it took so long.

I LOVED painting this. I hate finishing it. It was started about a year ago, and has been my boon companion through some stressful times. I need to start another boon companion I guess.

Thank you for such a wonderful comment, Bob, I appreciate the attention you've given this work

I LOVED painting the leaves, I'm so glad they caught your eye! I believe I spent more time on that than on the figure. And could have spent a lot more time on them, but had to fight the urge.

I repainted her face at least 5 times. It was the one part of the painting that I had definite in my mind before even knowing what the rest of the scene would be...the set of her chin especially. Funny where the heart of a painting resides, in this one I think it's the set of the chin

Bless your heart for a kind comment, and please accept my apologies for a late answer

Your big digital paintings are always totally mindblowing, and so they all get daily deviations, congratulations once again, on finishing it and on the feature.
I know what you mean about finishing, I haven't had a big project in ages, so will have to learn how to paint so I can get into that some more.
It's so big it's hard to take in all at once, but it's lovely, reminds me of so many things, it's easy to move people with photos of lonely looking people in beds and lonely looking people in cities, but to move someone with a well endowed young woman hunting in a roman style thingie (yeah) with a bow and a bunch of friendly animals, that's something that's harder to do, you managed it with me though, and it's awesome, I feel like I need a great big print so I can take it all in, sometimes when I visit art galleries and things, I think people have forgotten how to paint, but then I see this and others like it, and it's great to see movement forward as well as loving the past, I can imagine you becoming famous after you die and being studied in art history classes in sixty years.

and hopefully I'll be around DA more so I can tell you how lovely you are some more.
Andrew

I'll comment again later when DA has changed it so I can write my comment directly under the deviation, so I can scroll up instantly, I suppose I could just push home and end, but even so.

Wow, I'm glad to see you around here again hon I hope all is going well? School and stuff keeping you busy?

You know, I wouldn't mind being famous after I'm dead, I think I'd hate it to happen when I was alive. It would be too distracting and annoying, and I stink at schmoozing and socializing and all that BS stuff that goes along with that sort of thing

I am REALLY happy you liked this painting I keep looking at it and think "You know, I really should have worked more on..." and then I stop myself. I need to start something new

Well, I'm glad to see you around here again I hope you post some work soon!

I LOVE this..... Its so beautiful, and elegant.
I absolutely love Greek mythology...
I actually have an intaglio seal pendant dated from Circa 1500 AD. Just the stone of course, I don't believe the silver work is from that date.
But its a very amusing and unique pendant. Full of energy. I love it.
I forget what part of Greece it was found it though... I'll try and remember. Its on the tip of my tongue! I don't know why it slipped my mind.
My best friend/roommate actually has one as well. They're carved from Lapis.
I'll try and remember where they both came from...lol

artemis is definitely one of my favorite greek goddesses. She portrays such a strong woman, helping women through child birth, and fighting against the men who womanize. She is a little sexist, but she's still a really cool lady.

MBoulad In reply to Gaia715 [2007-11-11 21:57:21 +0000 UTC]

I like that you 'get' Artemis so well I've always loved the fact that she protects the vulnerable...animals, children and women. And I don't see her as 'anti-male' so much as against the forcing of the will of one being onto another

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Gaia715 In reply to MBoulad [2007-11-12 02:18:38 +0000 UTC]

Well I remember one story where a guy, I think "oggled" one of her nymph friends or did something along those lines and she turned him into a deer, chased him down and killed him. Do you remember that story? That's what made me think she was more anti-male. But I do love how she is a protector of the vulnerable. She seems to me to be one of the more hardy goddesses out there, although they are all quite headstrong in their own way.
