Description Watercolour on paper, 9" x 12". I've always been fascinated by the image of ravens, and to me the raven is a symbol of both wisdom and death, and a signal for moving forward on the path of life. The symbol on the top strip of what the raven is standing, the loopy thing, is an ancient symbol for the process of life and death and rebirth. The symbol on the strip under that is the ankh, the Egyptian symbol for life, and life after death. The face in this is me, and is my interaction with these mythological and ancient themes. Why I fashion myself with bugs in my hair, is because I like bugs and no one else does, so you can interpret that however you like.

I don't know why, perhaps it's the use of symbolism or perhaps the use of (my favorite colour trio) the blues, purples and blacks. But it's a definant fav.

you have a very intersting abstract style! i like the way you make normal stuf finto abstracts, don't see a lot of work with actual meaning in it here so i am impressed by that!

Thanks very much! Every visual representation has meaning, even if the artist doesn't recognize it.

Wow this is very nice. Your use of color is excellant, as is your use of symbolism. I love the sort of stained glass look of the raven, and the yellow bugs against the blue hair compliment each other nicely. Also I love the delicate soft touch of the watercolour on the skin, and then how its rougher, harder in other places.

I like the patterns that exist, balancing representation and symbolism
and abstract composition both on a literal and pictorial level. it's several approaches to the same image but, more importantly, they
cohere. they only part that doesn't fit in is the face; it's
very nicely rendered but I think it would be good it you were willing
to give yourself the same kind of dissection that you apply to the rest of the image.

I like this- the colors are pleasing to the eye. The fact that it has a story and a reason make it even more appealing. Good work!

Very nicely done! The first thing that popped into my mine when I saw this on my devwatch was Sandman by Neil Gaiman. Most likely because of the raven. IT reminds me of Dream's raven, Mathew, who's always sitting on his shoulder offering his form of 'advice.'

The mix of mythological symbols, their meanings, and the way you've implemented them in the picture really give this a surreal, mystical feel!

The blue undertones also add to the dreamy quality of it. I especially like the key by the raven's eye, a small detail I almost missed before enlarging to full view. So many little innuendos!

As for the bugs? I like the butterflies, but I can't say too much about the bees and spiders. Again, at first glance, it almost seemed like the bugs were hinting at the decay of something, self-image perhaps, due to the way bugs swarm over dead things. But in the end, I guess you just like bugs^_^

Did you use salt to make the clouds? I 've always wondered how to make the effect with watercolors.

The abstractions of the shape and color also give it a very unique look and style. You're very talented.

This is the kind of stuff that sells at DAprints ^_~

Great composition on a very well thought symbolisms and love of such sweet little things. The background blends in very nicely as well. I love the idea of using the key as the ravens eye, and such great emotion filled with passion wonderfully expressed is shown in the face.

Great job.
