Description Drawing of Velociraptor (based on a skeletal by Scott Hartman, done primarily for the Wikipedia article: [link]

I also did the size comparison chart featured there.

Updated 2009-Mar-26, to fix a few inaccuracies, clean up the scan and add colour. Skull shape modified to closely follow the Fighting Dinosaurs specimen, large flight feathers added to wing, based on discovery of quill knobs in this species which imply some pretty significant remiges.

I'm currently in the process of reviewing Alexander's "A Child's Introduction to Natural History: The Story of Our Living Earth–From Amazing Animals and Plants to Fascinating Fossils and Gems" & the illustrator's "Deinonychus" seems to be a shameless rip-off of your Velociraptor: pic.eslite.com/Upload/Product/…

Yeah, ALL of those illustrations look like they're "inspired" by other paleoart pretty heavily...

Hello! Do you mind if I use your drawing in my dinosaur book? I will give you credit in the form of a caption.

this is pretty much the flagship Velociraptor reconstruction. people may see velociraptor as how JP saw it, but when they think of a feathered one, this is pretty much the anthem. you see it everywhere, and that's good.

For me personally, this is the best velociraptor reconstruction ever! Can't imagine it otherwise. It's so believable, from the colour scheme (very accurate for a desert-dwelling predator) to the upturned shape of the snout. It may look delicate because of the big wing feathers, but its integument hides a fierce little hunter!

By, the way you have more paleoart on Wikipedia than anyone else!

Well, Emily Willoughby IS among my favourite palaeoartists, so it's no surprise her velociraptor is awesome as well!

Been hearing and seeing alot of evidence on the dino/bird theories of late. And I have to say that the facts are overwhelming even for me. Our misconceptions of dinosaurs held back all birds true origins. Now we can truly begin to see dinosaurs as they really were. Big birds. Guess Spielberg will have to reimagine all JP's now.

That's the thing about movies, they have to rely on things looking scary, since we equate feathers with chickens.

Lol, yet they don't even relate them to Eagles, Falcons, Hawks and Ostriches

Yup, though the evidence was just as overwhelming back then, at least when the third JP came out. Guess we just have to blame cultural inertia.

Yeah, and funny that the third one finally had the Pterodactyls from the first book.

Thanks! I always liked Deinonychus better but Velociraptors are pretty cool little birds

I should get around to uploading a cleaned scan, colored version of this actually.

I absolutely LOVE this picture!! And I just saw it in wiki earlier too. ^^ I've been in a dinosaur mood lately (blame it on JP) and I've been wanting to read up on stuff that I've missed for the past 9 years...I was a HUGE dino geek as a kid, but anime took over my life after I turned 11. I've missed being a dino geek!! D:

So you're the one who made that image!
I saw this while browsing Wiki like I usually do...
Haha! I don't like Jurassic Park velociraptors, thier not cute and fuzzy like these guys...

Actually, from what I've read, even though they are called Velociraptors, size-wise, they're based on Deinonychus(i HOPE that's spelled right. Oo). And even though they aren't feathery, they aren't that off in that regard. They just happen to be named Velociraptors instead.

And true. They aren't cute. This one is. ^^ Though I still like them in JP. XD

Awwww...(am I wrong in thinking dromaeosaurs in general are absolutely adorable?)

And yes, *very* nice Velociraptor, properly feathery and fuzzy like dromies are supposed to be :3
