THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME.Happily did all the sneaking and looting and setting fire to the hives without being spotted; as soon as I'm off the damn island a frigging DRAGON flew down and fireballed the whole place.. So of course once the remaining guards had finished it off (with the help of a few arrows from my behalf) I had to scuttle back up there, and flash my furry butt to everyone and their dog as I tried to absorb the dragon's soul..
I got a big penalty from the guild for 'killing guards' D: I was like OMGSOUNFAIR!
And yes, my khajiit is called Mouse :3
Don't usually draw comics, but this was fun! Enjoy.

This happened before I even got to the damned island... It was about 4 in the evening so I sat by the front of the bridge (I knew about the sewage pipe, but wanted to try it the hard way) for 4 in game hours so that it was dark enough for me to sneak. I was wondering why it was so easy to sneak across the bridge when I hear a dragonbreathscream and a 'mission failed' popped up on my HUD, leaving me sitting there like 'WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!?'
I did this at least 14 times, but the dragon always wastes one of the mercs before I can even get inside (by then I was trying to use the sewage pipe). So, fed up, I decided to find out when the dragon spawns so I can lead it elsewhere. I run all the way to Black-Briar Lodge, the dragon spawns at about 7:30, and I proceed to use the Mercs there as dragon-fodder as I sniped the bastard from a distance before going back to complete the damned mission.

You captured the hilarity and outrage which happen when quests and random encounters collide perfectly. I know of someone who never got a chance to burn down any of the beehives herself because of a random dragon attack. I had a random encounter doing this mission as well, but it worked out really well for me. I got inside via the sewers, collected everything I needed to sneakily, walked out the front door and instantly heard: "We're here to teach you a lesson." That's when I learnt the guards don't notice you burning down beehives when they are all busy attacking hired thugs. Best lesson ever!

i don't know why, but I simplay went in there and killed all the guards, because I failed to sneak...set the hives on fire...noone in the guild cared?

When I tried doing that mission, I had a very hard time getting through the island without being seen so I was like, "fuck this" and just ran through the island, set the beehives on fire, all while being chased by every guard there. As soon as I entered the house, they completely forgot about me.

When watching all these comments, many people seems to done that mission like this.
For me it wasn't a dragon, but Brynjolf complained that I burned more than 3 bee hives... even I was sure that I burned only 3 of them, what the heck D=

Dude that happened to my bro except he had a really hard time not being detected when he was trying to burn the beehives down and ended up slaying the dragon and everybody there.

Almost the same happened to me.I was swiming to reach the place and a fucking dragon appears.
Once I killed it I said "fuck sneaking,let's go crazy".....but yeah penalty happened.

Holy crap the same thing happened to me! I was busy burning the hives and all of a sudden this big frost dragon just drops in and I was like, "WTF. WHA- WHO- ... LYDIAAAA!!!"

I did this. Brutally slaughtered every mercenary hired, hacked and slashed at every skeever and decimated 3 hives and then decided to kill the owner and steal all the gold in the room with the safe.
I'M BRUTAL.

OH MY GOSH! The same thing happened to me on this quest! Only my dragon attacked the second I got there.
I waited for it to get dark and was about to set out and start being a bamf. Only I hear a roar and suddenly it said I had already set fire to 1 out of 3 beehives. I spent about 30 minutes firing arrow after arrow trying to get the dragons attention and draw it away. It was pointless to sneak out side after that because all the mercs that were out there already, were trying to kill me while I tried to finish the off the dragon. (Assholes...)
Luckily after about a 150 arrows, (and a million health potions later,) I downed the dragon, killed the last few mercs, set fire to the last two beehives I needed, THEN I snuck in and was a thief.
I felt so stupid just running around "FUS!"ing and throwing rocks at the damn trollDragon!
I'm so sorry you failed it though!
