They are so cute together. I like the expression of the dragon, and how you painted him.

Haha, I bet..scales can be fun, but are extremely tedious!! Turned out awesome though, and I'm curious to see how you will be using textures in the future c:

this is amazing! I"m so glad you did do the scales, they really add to the realism of the piece. The detail of the background is so very fun! I agree with Pinali that the grass behind should be more faded, and the girls skin needs more warm colors, but other than that, this is amazing! Great job! (I just cant get over how wickedly awesome that dragon is...)

Ooh, I love the life/energy in this one. The dragon is so cute with those big innocent eyes! All your work on the scales definitely paid off, as well, his form really stands out.

Regarding the girl, I love her pose and expression but I feel like she's very grey for someone in sunlight. Her skin is pretty bland and so are the shadows on it - I think she would've benefitted from a bit more yellow in the skin tone and more saturated shading colours in places (the darkest ones should be cool, though, yep)

Only other thing that bothers me here is the background - the blades of grass that are furhter away are shaded with the exact same range of values and colours as the ones right close up to the viewer, and it looks a bit strange. The patch of grass above the dragon's nose/claw is a bit distracting to my eye (when it shouldn't be since it's part of the background, not a focal point) but I'm not sure if that's just me.
I think if you pushed your atmospheric perspective on the hills a bit as well then the girl and dragon would "pop" more and create a more clear silhouette against the backdrop, helping to draw the eye to them.

I hope that's at least a bit helpful for you. Great to see you back.

After staring at the picture for a while I can see what you mean! Especially with the grass.. I think I was so keen to finish the picture (the first proper picture I'd done in like.. several years) I didn't pay as much attention to things like my range of values. I think I'll fade out the background in the distance a bit with some blue, and do the same with some of the grass.

Really appreciate the input Danke danke!

No problem! I'm glad it helped ya

I also know that feel about doing art after a lengthy break, my 'trying to get back into it' pieces all looked like butts
