Description
The title came first.
It's a drink actually.I hadn't done Ataraxe in a while, and thought he deserved a brooding full body portrait.
The scene depicts him on the Lookout Knoll, gazing towards the Gryphon Mounatins.
My computer froze before I had a chance to save my grass, and the new one I had to make (yes, I had to restart the damn thing and lost all the work up until my lats save) is not up to par with the first version, you know how THAT is, redoing something you just did from scratch... So sorry abut that.
And the ocean, like real shortcut there, it should look all stormy and wavy but I gave up on that, it just looked weird. Mayeb I'll go back and work on it, who knows.
Once I had gotten a good bit on the way I realized it is quite similar to my portrait of Fallfrost, but that can't be helped. XD
As per usual it was created completely in photoshop, taking I have no idea how many hours so don't ask.

Hey there. This is GORGEOUS and I'm definitely +faving it but I'd honestly feel better if you gave credit where credit is due to Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig who created the sculpture; Stormwatch that was definitely used as a reference for this piece.

You capture the essence of those books in every single image that you draw of Ataraxe. Beautiful!! And the ocean looks like the calm before the storm.

I can't exactly pinpoint what I love about Ateraxe but I just keep staring at this picture. I think its a mixture of the pose, the shading, the mane and tail and the composition. So everything basically 
Its just so beautiful I keep having to scroll back up to look at it 
I was just wondering if you could help me...
I have recently started doing my realistic pieces in greyscale but I have a problem when trying to bring out white markings, I tend to loose the detail of the shading. Any ideas how to get round this problem?

Hm, well I tend to up the contrast a LOT on the white areas, and the as I go through the paling/whitening process - that can usually help a bit!

And then Sirraz wanders up and asks what he's thinking, and Ataraxe promptly says something cutting and stalks away. *grin* Nice work on the colors here, Los - you created a really moody atmosphere. Also, the sky is incredible. Cloud formations can be a pain in the butt to get right, but I love painting them.
