I realize this is an older post and you may not check it too often. Anywho... I was wondering if you had any advise for the tail on this OC of mine manic-the-hedgehog13.deviantar… As you can see she has a whip tail and I have no clue on how to make her tail on a figure. I have an 8" Celestia to turn into her. Any advise would be appreciated.

Its actually pretty easy to add hair into clay, you could sculpt her tail then stick the nylon hair into the tip.
I've only tried with yarn and my own sculptures when i was experimenting to see if i could make a custom in a different pose, but i think it should work with nylon hair.

Ooh! I am just reminded! You mentioned not being able to buy twist ties for your re-hairing your pony. Try getting some plant ties from the garden section of Walmart, or wherever it is you do your shopping. They've got some that is essentially the same thing as bread ties! Only you can adjust the length to fit your needs c: Even better, right? And it comes pretty cheap if memory serves correctly.

Haha! Thanks for the tip! I'm not even subtle about stealing mine from my supermarket anymore. I have confused many a cashier by the fistful of veggie bag twist ties at the bottom of my shopping cart.

Lol that sounds hilarious! They must think you're some kind of weirdo that like collects random things xD
Are you going to submit more ponies by the way? I do love to see your work

um, small question, what size needle do you use in the rehairing tool from your ponies? I want to make customs, but my last rehairing job was with wire and my hands hated me for the rest of the day. (I keep having to switch hands to keep from cutting into my fingers)

I use size 8 according to the chart off of Dollyhair's website- which is where I bought the tool and my needles. Size 8 is also the standard size they sell. Bigger and smaller needles are both available. They can be found here: www.dollyhair.com/reroottool.h…

If you plan on cutting up your own needles for a reroot tool, well, I'm not much of a sewer so I actually don't quite know what "size 8" translates into. To my untrained eye, however, they seem to be a pretty standard needle size. Like the kind you'd sew buttons on a shirt with. And I'll just stop talking now before I confuse you too badly...

I was planning on getting my needle from Dollyhair, that and the hair I was gonna use since I had order hair from there before and was happy with them. I just got confused trying to figure out the rehairing tool from the what they were saying on the page.

Thank you, I'll write down the size so I'll remember.

Haha! Yeah, it can be a bit confusing when you first start. Don't worry, though! It's not nearly as complicated as it seems at first. Just remember to get a few needles as back up. Nothing's worse than breaking one in the middle of a project only to find that it was your last one.

I told my ponies about this method and they backed away
from me with fear and loathing in their eyes.

Cool tutorial.
