Description I go through color phases. Lately all I want to use are natural sheepy browns.

The little mitts on the lower right were done by request for a friend's three-year-old, who had some trouble eating his sandwiches with mittens on. I like them so much, I think I'll make some for big people.

Ha ha! I do have a day job now, but I didn't at the time I was knitting all these. I do still get to knit and draw, though.

Good deal. I knit to... sometimes. I haven't this year yet. I have a full time job too. When I get home I go to the dungeon and work on art. LOL....

I wouldn't mind myself either the birch or vanilla milk mitts. It's already getting really cold for me here. I went form living in Phoenix where it's still "Let's go play outside" weather to living in northern Utah, where it's normal to get a up to two feet of snow and have school still not be cancelled. ._.

I need some mitts. :[

Dang, that's a serious temperature switch. I went the other way -- from northern Ohio to Hawaii!

They actually don't make the yarn I used for the vanilla milk mitts anymore ( I loved it so much), but I can make something similar? And I can whip up some birch mitts if you like. Tell me which ones you prefer, if you do want a pair, and I'll get 'em done!

Yeah, but I love my school, so it's totally worth it. :]

And wow! You live in Hawaii? That's neat. My uncle just moved back from Hilo not too long ago.

How much would a pair similar to the vanilla milk mitts cost? :]

lily-fox In reply to Hearts-Are-Cold [2011-10-08 08:08:58 +0000 UTC]

The vanilla milks sold for $28, but that might go down, depending on what yarn I find to replace it. I can definitely try to find some nice stuff that's less expensive. Let me look around and see what I can find, yeah?

Alright. How about the birch ones? :]

lily-fox In reply to Hearts-Are-Cold [2011-10-08 09:50:20 +0000 UTC]

Birch ones arrre... also $28. They do still have that yarn. It is super soft, like having baby bunnies wrapped around your hands. ;D Very, very warm. The vanilla mitts would be a little cooler, being made of cotton. They'll let your hands breathe more. All depends on what you like. And of course, I can just whip up a pair of striped mitts any old way you like.

Thanks a ton. I'll let you know when I'll be able to purchase them. Thanks for being so quick to get back to me. :]

No problem! Those mitts are pretty popular, so I'll just start looking for yarn for 'em.

SpicyMangoz [2011-08-07 08:44:11 +0000 UTC]

how many stitches to you cast on to begin with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lily-fox In reply to SpicyMangoz [2011-08-07 10:31:06 +0000 UTC]

For a mitt, that totally depends on the gauge. What size needles and yarn do you like to use for mitts?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpicyMangoz In reply to lily-fox [2011-08-08 23:40:01 +0000 UTC]

I use standard yarn, and either size 2 or 7 needles (depending on my mood).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lily-fox In reply to SpicyMangoz [2011-08-09 00:33:51 +0000 UTC]

Using worsted yarn and US7 needles, I'd say cast on 36-45 stitches, depending on how you like it and whether you're doing a rib or not. You know, if you're into mitts and hats, I recommend my all-time favorite knitting book, Knit One, Embellish Too by Cosette Cornelius-Bates. Lots of gorgeous patterns that are very easy to follow and easy to customize. That's how I learned to make my own hats and mitts!

This might be too personal of a question, but I'm just so curious. Do you work? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to pass judgment, but I can't begin to imagine where do you find the time to make all these beautiful crafts, along with your amazing art.

lily-fox In reply to LadyStardust722 [2011-03-09 14:45:27 +0000 UTC]

As a matter of fact, I'm still looking for a job. Not too personal, just a bit of a sore spot. The job market is seriously rubbish in Hawaii (and like, everywhere else). So I do have a lot of time, and I like to be productive. C:

So I finally caved in and put in an order for the fawn mitts. These are just what I need to keep my joints warm when working convention dealer's rooms, since they stay so cold! And it leaves my fingers free to draw. I've been watching these for a long time now, and I can't wait any longer!

Hey Lily, the fawn mitts arrived today! Cute packaging, and they're SOOO comfy! These will be traveling with me to conventions and will keep my hands warm while drawing in those freezing cold dealers rooms!

Excellent work, and thanks again!
