I usually don't draw ooky characters, but Red Skull appears to have gained new infamy as a result of the new "Captain America" movie.

In researching the uniform and sidearm of this nefarious bad guy I was appauled to find the most bizarre SH*T on DA that is dedicated to the glorification and eroticization of the Nazis!
Some of these people should be ashamed of themselves!

More and more it seems Marvel is trying to distance Red Skull from his Origin as Hitler's personal henchman. while with the time distance it does make sense if you don't want him locked in as a period-piece character, there still comes a point where people with even a basic knowledge of the character have to stop and say "come on, really?"
even in such media as Captain America: the First Avenger, which is SET during WWII, Red Skull is portrayed not as a Nazi but merely a psychotic tyrant using the Nazis to fund his own personal efforts.
oh, you'll still find him wearing Nazi-style uniforms or carrying a Luger in action figures or other sources, but it seems they are trying more and more to associate him purely with HYDRA, going so far as to replace Nazi insignia with the HYDRA logo.

I compliment you on not being afraid to portray Red Skull in his TRUE form: that of a Died-in-the-wool Nazi, created by Hitler himself.

I don't know why Marvel is distancing him from the source material. I depicted the Red SkullΒ wearing the same uniform as that of SD leader Reinhard Heydrich.

I suppose it could be more recognition of historical awareness, that a Nazi cannot be treated as a mere Comic book villain when they did so many appalling things.
but at the same time, I personally feel it LESSENS Red Skull's villainous impact when you associate him purely with a fictional organization, over such persons who committed real evils.

And the worst part is the Hetalia fangirls, who only see Nazi Germany as some cute guy that they can ship with other countries. I'm serious.

I saw a couple of episodes (very short) with my daughter. We were both flabbergasted by the total vacuity of the series.

These fans are not even aware of the concept of "the banality of evil". Jack Kirby himself understood this. He drew an origin story in which Hitler boasts that Nazism dould turn any random man into terror of men. So he took the next bellhop who appeared at his hotel door and turned him into the Red Skull.

I hate hate hate Hetalia. What's even worse is I just realized a few days ago that that name is a pun playing up the homoerotcism. The whole thing is just homoeroticism mixed with good ol' fashioned racism.

I mean, if you reduce Hitler to just a TV-sitcom-style bad boss, you completely undermine everything about him, and why he was such a threat.

It's like Inglorious Basterds: Hitler is reduced to a goofy bad-guy, the holocaust is made light of, and i just hate anything that portrays hitler as not dying, alone in the ruins of his empire, by his own hand. it's fitting for him.
and i have to add this: it furthurs the (INCORRECT!) Sterotype that all german soldiers were involved in the Holocaust. it was the SS who carried out the exterminations and exeuctions: Early in the war, German Army Generals actually Arrested SS officers who commited atorcities!

The series could only have been made in Japan which had no immediate experience of WWII in Europe. The Japanese however, have their own baggage. They have never acknowledged the war crimes that Imperial Japan committed in China and elsewhere. Japanese school textbooks are silent on the subject. This may be why generations have grown up in Japan that are willing to make light of the war period.

It's quite a contrast from the time of Barefoot Gen and Godzilla. And the guy who created Hetalia is a teacher. A TEACHER!

Oh, that's nothing compared to Captain Planet's take on the subject. Watch it, and weep: [link]
