A long overdue (yup, I’m finally getting through them!) ‘joint’ commission for fellow Sweeney Todd appreciators Jil (Westie Chick) and Tau (Captain Jack) of Fur Affinity.Normally, I wouldn’t undertake a commission of this nature, but, as it sounded like it was going to be oh so much fun to work on, I thought ‘what the heck?’ and went full steam ahead.
Both Jil and Tau are planning to cosplay as Burton’s Todd and Lovett, and Jil is quite the fan of the original Broadway production. As such, they requested that their characters have a mixture of influences evident in their overall look.
So, this is partly Sondheim, partly Burton. Jil has the Lansbury apron & buns but also the Helena low neckline and gloves. Tau has Depp's waistcoat, streak and gloves, but also Cariou's barber coat (the long trailing one) and razor.
It felt pretty strange to be working on something like this, when I’m trying to develop my own version of the Sweeney Todd character, but the challenge was a good one and I sure hope they like it! Jil, Tau… have some awesome sauce!

No waaayy... so, I've been scouring your gallery like an obsessed freak drooling at every page... *ahem* sorry. To get to the point, a long time ago I saw this on dA and fell in love with it, added it to my favorites on my old account, etc. And I NEVER knew it was you who did it because I never bothered to visit your profile. Wow! I'm so glad you found my cruddy sketch in my scraps and commented on it, or I never would've found you.
(still a big fan of this piece, although I think foxes and cats suits them better.

This is simply unbelievable. You have such a great feel for the characters. And what's better is - this is a POWERFUL Lovett, unlike the movie version's victimized one. Sondheim said that he believes Mrs. Lovett is the real villain of the piece (and I agree) and this picture really captures that vision. Also this picture evokes the original playbill art for the musical, which I love. I adore this SO much, and I am beyond grateful you took this commission - and even though you feel like it was overdue, it could not have come at a better time, because I found out that the production of Sweeney Todd I was set to be Lovett again in next year might not be happening. But this alleviated that blow.
Seriously, I am going to frame this and hang it on my wall.
