MOAR CONCEPT ARTS!!!
Another batch of random sketches / conceptual drawings compiled from my now bulging sketchbook (if you can indeed call it a sketchbook… it’s more like a giant folder crammed with everything but the kitchen sink…
Right, back to work, here we have: two roughly painted portraits of Mrs Lovett and Sweeney Todd (because it’s one thing to make things work in black and white and quite another when it comes to colour), some random poses (Mrs Lovett giving Sweeney a kiss = a Valentine’s Day nightmare) and some early drawings of some of the other characters in The String of Pearls; Lieutenant Thornhill (you’ve been introduced to), Colonel Jeffery (the tiger, an officer of the Indian Army), Johanna Oakley (the… guh… typical sweetheart of a Victorian narrative) and that scruffy fellow above is Mark Ingestrie (most of you will know him as Anthony in later versions of the tale)… also of course, Mr Fogg and the crazies (sounds like a great name for a rock band).
Uuuurgh…

You're welcome! I unfortunately have not read a String of Pearls. Which depresses me considering how much I love the Era it was written in and Sondheim's play. (Totally aware how different Todd is though.)

Is that tiger supposed to be the Italian barber Sweeny murders first in the movie? If so I'd love to have you render a scene showing his and Sweeney's confrontation.

Aw no, the tiger isn't... Pirelli... these are based on the book rather than the stage production, and in that there's no Italian barber. The tiger is a colonel serving in the army who ends up investigating Sweeney's movements after his friend goes missing.
That would be a cool scene to do though.

Cool. That'd make an interesting confrontation then. Maybe Sweeney could be trying to sweet talk that Sergent while there's a body that's been swiftly stuffed somewhere. I think that character has potential in your artwork.

Aw wow these are wicked wicked awesome! I like that guy on the bottom right corner just to the right of Mr. Fogg (Mr. Fogg's the badger, right?) with the amazingly neat profile.

Every time I see one of your sketches of Mrs Lovett, I get the impression that if she didn't scowl so much and was less stressed out, she'd be quite a pretty lady, much like how Sweeney would be a lot more roguishly charming if he didn't have that creepy evil rictus he calls a smile.

The tiger is pure love. His design is crisp and all official-like and wonderful. The kiss one definitely made me laugh - Sweeney's face is priceless. And those quick paintings could even stand on their own as finished peices. Still love Mrs. Lovett's eyes, not gonna lie. Art dumps make me happy!
