Description Ok .. a couple of months ago i decided to make a Zelda fanart. So i thought about the dozens of images that were imprinted in my memory by playing all those games .. and it was a tough choice to decide which way to do.

Until i realized what the game was all about, and then my job was pretty easy.

I could have chosen a lot of different images ... could have done all those fancy images of combat, flashing things, blur, all that shit .. but i think this one, in it's simplicity, is much better to describe the game. If you take all the locations, all things Link does in all the games, it boils down to this.

Courage.

I remember the 1st time i played Ocarina of Time in christmas night on the year that it launched. I after a couple of hours exploring the village, figuring out what to do, i got into the 1st dungeon. And that is the image of the final boss of it.

Its that simple. You walk into Gohma's Lair, there's no sound besides your footsteps, all is dark and Navi (the fairy) is flying around, until you hear some "cracking sound" from something moving in the room .. you look around until you spot in the ceilling. It's jumps down in front of you .. stare down, Link unsheath his sword and tiny woden shield and get ready ... Navi ready to assist him.

This is pretty much what all games from the series are about. A kid (or young guy) simply moving foward by sheer courage to save someone, or everyone .. He's not the badass hero that nearly every game now has .. that kill legions of enemies.

He's just this:

A kid with his tiny sword and wooden shield.

And people wonder why i think they are the best series of all time ..

Of cause, Ghoma isn't really threatening to the player, but I think, that this does a good represention of how Link himself must feel when facing it!

This is one of the most realistic representation of Queen Gohma I've ever seen. It's well done.

This is such a master-piece! Great work. I'm doing an orchestral arrangement on youtube and would love to use this as the cover art, with your permission of course. Credit will be given.

A friend of mine once told me that someone actually played through Ocarina of Time blindfolded, and navigated by sounds from the game.  There's being able to do a speed run, but playing through Ocarina of Time BLINDFOLDED?!  That's ridiculous!

There's actually a guy who completed Ocarina of Time despite being actually blind. He played the game as a kid before going blind, and later did it using sounds and memory to make his way through.

on GDQ (Games done quick, a event on twitchtv that a bunch of streamers group together to stream games for like a week, where donations do to things like cancer etc) have several games done blindfolded

The first time I tried this fight I was sitting in a corner hiding behind the shield while dozens of those small creatures that hatch from the eggs where jumping at me and I was in panic thinking "help, what should I do? Aaah, I'm dying!" xD

Very well captured!

I agree.  That is probably part of why the Zelda series is my favorite (of fantasy, that is).  He is normal.  He earns his powerful weapons and item sand spells through sheer badassery.  He fights things that lay low entire kingdoms.  He does it all as a normal human being (with elf ears).  All of his power he earned, through blessings or fighting his way through dungeons.  He could be me.

Faved this some time ago, but I never left a comment. Just wanted to say, excellent job, and you really took me back to my childhood with this one. I remember when Gohma was practically the scariest thing ever, and defeating her felt like both a victory in the game and a triumph over my own intimidation. Ocarina of Time was the first game I remember being so immersed in, and you do it justice, which is not something I say lightly.

glad you liked it ... I plan on doing other drawings of all OoT big bosses.

it's kind of a personal project to make a small homage to the game, which I have great memories of it

And yeah OoT is just the bee's knees. I keep wishing they would remake it with modern graphics. That would be astoundingly awesome.

The depth of this work, and the scale you made Gohma compared to link is just...phenomenal. I love this piece of work. It's so dark and foreboding, but it's amazing. It truly does embody courage. Great work. Amazing painting.

glad you like them. while I don't produce as much work as I'd want to, I think that givin time for my ideas to sink in and "evolve" over time in my head before I put them on paper/screen is giving me really good results so far

Peerless composition. Given Zelda's overall colorful atmosphere, I think the fact that you pull off such great detail without losing the soul of the subject is what makes this one of the best Zelda tributes I've seen. What makes this picture great is the obvious consideration you put into the tone of it, without it, I think this image would lose a lot of what makes it connect with Zelda so well.

I almost don't want to see what your interpretation of the Dead Hand would be.
