it wasn't a single brush, there were a few of them

Back them I didn't use any aditional software to pose the characters, all was posed from scratch, which is why there's a few perspective and anatomy issues.Β

I did consider including the demon soul, but I wanted to focus on the scene that he's trying to kill Ronin.Β

I do try to create a few "scenes" from time to time. Problem is they are too time consuming and I can't always fit them in my monthly schedule

This is a beautifully rendered Warcraft piece, and exactly how I would have imagined Alexstrasza chasing down a nasty bit of orc. The expression on Rhonin's face is perfect. The angle on the wings seems a little off, but the mountains, sky and fire certainly enhance it more than that small detail. The perspective and energy of the work is beautiful. It's clear the amount of time and effort you've put into capturing the emotion of this scene. I can see her charging down, full of a mother's rage, intent on destroying the little worm who dared assault her children. You have a wonderful grasp on character interaction and reaction. Excellent work as always.

This is fantastic, I always somehow end up coming back to this to spruce up my mood. Then I found myself wondering, how large your canvas is when you generally start a piece. I'm usually daunted by large open space but the detail work looks so fun and engrossing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

krysdecker In reply to strykr-ntt [2011-10-25 14:35:01 +0000 UTC]

its often around 6k wide by the proportion to make a widescreen.

thing is that i work in 2 windows. I leave a 25% zoom window that is the "final resolution" and then i work on another one that's usually at 50-300% depending on what im detailing.

That's why most of my works have a high detail lvl . If you check my gallery you'll find some examples of how i setup my screen.

Hello, PepperWolf!)
I was so impressed by your works, that showed them to my mom (and videos videos of your work) and it certainly admire her the possibilities of modern computer programs, but she doubts the need for such detail to portray the many minor details (e.g. under the wing, in the shade, ... .) as it makes drawing too fractional and unpleasant for visual perception. Detailed analysis of shape in the foreground - a justifiable need for the picture, but the detailing minor details the picture - this is a mistake (it is her opinion, not mine). Such details would be justified if the images were quite large, but if you plan illustration in a magazine or book, it too much (my mom 16 years worked in a glossy magazine as art director). (She's got classical art education)
Thanks a lot for reference to Hogarth, it is too early for me, but I see, that is very good book!!!

Beautiful piece of work, I love the fire, it's just amazing. Alexstrasza's face and eyes do seem a bit lax about this, considering what's going on, Rhonin's face is pretty good and Nekros' face is just, brutal, in a good way. The mountains and grass is amazingly detailed, the snow on the mountains really adds to the picture in some odd way. The sky is very calm and serene, this is just a lovely picture.

The very first fan-art of Alexstrasza on Deviantart which I had loved!

I really hate all that half-naked or even full-naked (;/) blood elves out there... heheh, I can't imagine Queen of all Dragons being so devoid of her glory and ave, and strip to the rank of some sexual abuse target of adolescents ;/
Blizzard has really disappointed me in her in-game design. For the very first time I was happy that I ended my adventures with Warcraft game on W3, moved on to reading books, mangas and never played WoW actually...

And as you requested critique... heh, I may not be the best in such things (I love something, like something, or hate something. Nothing in-between), but I'll try my best.
There are a lot of positives here: you've created brilliant, dynamic scene (by yawing camera) and created really masterpiece in term of used technique. As you've propably heard hundreds times from previous comments
My only two complaints are about Queen's face and her wings, mostly right one (counting from camera, left one). You see, if I do not know that she is female, I would be absolutely certain that you had made portrait of dragon, not dragoness. There is nothing femme in her design, not even a bit of suggestion. I know that to make her more womanly you'd have to resign from some of her glory, but I think it would be worth the effort.
As for wings, I am almost sure that she had to break her bones to twist them like this. No known to me bird could pitch them as in your image. This is, in my humble opinion, the greatest drawback of your image. Yet still it is very unimportant compared to the overall result.

Keep up with so great work and, I beg you, make a Korialstrasz in his first-after-centuries flight as he takes off to rescue his most beloved one.

krysdecker In reply to Stray-Soul [2010-01-15 01:43:12 +0000 UTC]

the wings was something i noticed during the progress of the drawing, but didnt fixed it...

one major problem was that my workflow was still very raw on that drawing, most of the areas are chunks of rendering, so there's a lot of flaws (most of them related to lightning) ...

but the wings, in my defense, theres ONE dragon with wings that bend in that way.
[link]
[link]

i used those as reference @ building the skeleton of the dragon .. Obviously, theres the difference that this one is dead, but the idea remains the same, to use the wings as "arms" (like protodrakes on wow) ... they are not conventional, but, possible =o.

but yes, lot of room to improve, thanks for the comment

Stray-Soul In reply to krysdecker [2010-01-15 19:25:36 +0000 UTC]

There is small but important difference between your wing and that of the ice wyrm:
This is your wing: [link]
And this is of that wyrm: [link]
(sorry for the quality of renders, there are absolutely quick ones)
You have very short first finger on the wing (I have absolutely no idea how to call that in english ^^"). It is turned up which is equal to human's:
[link]
Well, maybe her bone would survive anyways, but yet still it would be very uncomfortable or even painful to hold them that way. Especially keeping wings in air (that wyrm used it to keep balance and put them on the ground).

There is also one thing I noticed now - look at her breast. She had that comb (again I'm not sure about word) only on her right side (ours left). Is it intended?

Anyways it is really a masterpiece and I hope to see more from you *Added to watch*
