Mei Ling doesn't get enough love. There, I said it.Most people knew from the beginning that "Secrets of the Furious Five", the companion shortie (short movie) probably wouldn't do much to push any real character development forward.
And while I tend to *mostly* agree with this, it was fun to watch nevertheless. Besides, who didn't love Tigress as a little girl? Anyway, Mei Ling was definitely my favorite non-canon character from SotFF -- she was Crane's only friend at Li Da Academy, as it goes with his story. And that's why I decided to give her a whirl. There isn't enough fanart of her to begin with, so I figured: "Hey, why not?"
Before you say anything, I KNOW the background sucks. But I wanted more focus on her and less focus on...everything around her. Deal with it. And what is she reading on that slip of paper? Who knows. You can fill in the blanks, if you like.
This is my first real creation with my fancy new Wacom Intuos4. I'm lovin' it!

I would like to see more fan art of Mei Ling out there, hopefully when Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness airs on Nickelodeon later this year, they'll put her in as a reoccuring character, I'd like to see her and Crane reunited ^^

That's an awesome drawing of her. Lots of detail on her fur and the grass.
I think the reason why I like Mei Ling is because people can give her a good creative spin since we've only seen her for about 2 or 3 minutes; and aside from her being friendly towards Crane and an excellent fighter, there otherwise wasn't much character development to her.
All in all, sweet picture.

First of all, thank you for the great comment. Second of all, I completely agree with you. She is a fantastic character, even if she was just used as a motivational object for Crane's story. I'm disappointed right now to see that this is how she will stay -- just a background character.

Audra convinced me to love the background, too...I know it isn't that bad, but you know how much I crave detail in my work -- even in the background
