This art features my BnHA OC, Karamea Kinaki !!
Teeeechnically I was supposed to be doing commissions yesterday, but I got on a stir of some sort and spent the whole day doing this. And I'm glad I did, because holy shit I LOVE how it's come out! I was going to post this with a drabble to set the scene but... it's not really a drabble anymore XDD
Late in Toshinori's first year teaching at Yuuei, Karamea discovers she's pregnant. It's hard to say when the baby was conceived, because Karamea doesn't realise it until she starts showing, thanks to having been told several times that she would likely have difficulty getting pregnant and also the effects of hormonal birth control. After a lot of careful thought and planning, she and Toshinori decide that they're in a good position to keep and raise the child despite their respective disabilities; they attend parenting classes together and schedule probably more appointments with her ob/gyn than is strictly necessary, but hey, they're first-time parents with a lot of money, they're allowed to be eager lmao.
It's at one of these appointments that they find the baby is beginning to look a little... odd. The instruments start picking up the presence of a non-organic substance, beginning in the baby's limbs and gradually covering more and more of its body. Karamea, whose own Quirk was visible on ultrasounds prior to her birth, feels a strong conviction that this is the baby's Quirk manifesting as hers had. Soon, however, the baby is completely obscured from view, and soon after that, the sound of its heartbeat disappears.
Fearing the worst, Toshinori and Karamea take two weeks off from their jobs, staying in a private Tokyo hospital while their doctors attempt to figure out what's going on and whether their baby is still alive.
(Spoiler alert, she is. She's just... not your ordinary baby. :v)

OH MY LORD YOU MADE IT INTO A WHOLE PICTURE, YASSS~!! It’s so freaking beautiful~! The background and it’s warm, sunset tint as well done. (I think I’ve mentally associated ToshiKara with a sunset color palette now- it’s fitting imo ff) Idk if this is weird, but I love how the colors glow against the curtains. It’s such a wonderful attention to detail~.

and yeah, Toshi and Karamea go through some hard times while they're waiting for Kahurangi to arrive. Luckily, after she's born, they only have a few initial hiccups, and then she's a comparatively easy baby to care for. (Mako and Akinori are the opposite - easy pregnancies, scary af kiddoes to raise lolol)

Mako is a nightmare of a baby, because she a l w a y s wants to be with her parents, to be held or cuddled or even just be able to see what they're doing, and she hates to be left behind for... no real reason that her parents can see. If she has to be left with someone else for a while, she screams and cries until she exhaust herself, and she doesn't sleep well either; she's strangely active in the night and most of said activity will be trying to find her parents. That said, once she figures out how to walk, her tantrums and anxiety about this goes way down, and by the time she's three or four she's much better, if still somewhat clingy and always wanting a hug XDD
Akinori, on the other hand, is a calm, sleepy baby (who in fact sleeps so well and so deeply that they sometimes end up waking him up just to make sure, lol). He doesn't start causing trouble until he can get around by himself, at which point he becomes something of a ninja and an escape artist. As a child, he gets himself lost in multiple major cities just because he has an imperceptible presence and sometimes it's hard to spot him even when he is there, lmao. He also doesn't really learn from adverse experiences - he's got scars all over one of his hands from touching hot things trying (and failing) to use his quirk.

Mako is 100% a daddy's girl, but if daddy is not available then mommy will do XDD I have this headcanon that Toshi was similar as a baby, so they get advice on how to deal with her from his grandma, who is at that point still alive and kicking at 100 years old, lmao. Mako proves to be basically his clone as she grows up - they've got a lot of the same mannerisms and preferences, and neither of them are sure if they're just naturally that way or if she's semi-deliberately modeled herself after him. She gets diagnosed with ADHD at about 10, with a truly classic case, and shortly afterward Toshinori gets a diagnosis of his own because "Huh, I thought all those things were normal, I did them myself!"
Akinori is a momma's boy, although he's pretty subtle about it - he's got ADHD too, inattentive type, but it isn't diagnosed until he's a teenager because he gets an autism diagnosis as a kid and enough of the symptoms cross over that the docs aren't quite sure he qualifies for the ADHD diagnosis at first. So he and Karamea bond over that - they have a lot in common, especially with the social symptoms, although Karamea's always been significantly more judgemental than Akinori ever is XDD
Kahurangi on the other hand doesn't have a preference. Toshinori is worried she might for a while, because she doesn't talk until she's three but she's using digital communication well before that, meaning that most of her communication goes through Karamea until she's confident enough to text Toshinori directly. But she starts speaking aloud pretty much just in order to talk to him, and he might have cried a bit when she told him that. Maybe a lot. XDD
