Description 'He was part of my dream, of course...
...but then, I was part of his dream, too.
'
-Lewis Caroll

So, I fell in love with these little flowers and I had two similar shots (meaning the angle and focal point were similar, they were both shot from the side) and for the life of me could not decide which to upload. Although I don't like uploading too similar photos (especially of the same subject) I've still decided to do a 'duo' out of them. So this is part I and part II (...but then, I was part of his dream, too.) will follow is online now, too.

This was taken at the Landesgartenschau 2012 (of the state Baden-WΓΌrttemberg) in Nagold.

Equipment: Olympus E-510; 14-54mm zuiko lens

I love this photo! Everything about it feels like the smallest bed in Goldilocks -- it's just right e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

The colours here tread well the line between muted and bright -- the background fades into a lovely blend of shades that enhance rather than fight against the colour of the closer petals The yellow and green in the background also provide a point of interesting contrast with the cooler shades present in the foreground. I also like how you've focused on one clump of flowers and left the other obscured; it's like a floral Gemini, and draws the eye across the photo. The lighting here is also good, with the highlights brightening those flowers directed towards the sun and letting the coolness of shadows play over the lower blooms. Your focus is also good -- picking the small section to leave pin-sharp. Personally I probably would have tried to have that whole bunch in sharp relief, but I doubt it would have worked as well as your graduated fading does; your way makes the details clearer, as it happens, as opposed to over-loading the eye with things to examine.

Honestly the only thing I have to comment on perplexedly here is: what on Earth is the line in the right-hand corner of the shot that kinda connects to one of the lower blooms?

In conclusion, it's not often you see a picture of flowers that deserves the adjective 'magical', but this for me is one such piece

Hello Sarah!

Thanks so much for your critiqiue and wow, I am awed that you gave it such a good critique! I'm really happy you like it.
As to your question what the line in the right-hand corner is, I think you mean the white line? That is some motion lens blur (it was very, very windy and I had problems getting the shot and if I held on to the stem of the flowers then I would have needed to shoot from another angle, but I wanted that angle...lol) Anyways, that is some natural motion blur. I guess I could have edited it out but I guess I forgot, because I like to edit as little as possible.

But really, thanks so much for taking the time to critique me and it totally made my day that you like the photo!

Oh you're welcome -- I thought it might have been a bit of spider web, actually, and it's not that bad or anyhting it was just one of those 'the more I try not to look at it the more I notice it' moments

I agree The longer I stare at it, the more I notice it now
(by the way I've uploaded part II of this ...but then, I was part of his dream, too. )
