Description 1st place winner in the contest Thank you sooo much

A warning to the people
The good and the evil
This is war
To the soldier, the civillian
The martyr, the victim
This is war

It's the moment of truth and the moment to lie
The moment to live and the moment to die
The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight, to fight

To the right, to the left
We will fight to the death
To the Edge of the Earth
It's a brave new world from the last to the first

A warning to the prophet, the liar, the honest
This is war
To the leader, the pariah, the victim, the messiah
This is war

I do believe in the light
Raise your hands up to the sky
The fight is done
The war is won
Lift your hands
Towards the sun
The war is won

I believe in nothing
Not the end and not the start
I believe in nothing
Not the earth and not the stars
I believe in nothing
Not the day and not the dark
I believe in nothing
But the beating of our hearts
I believe in nothing
One hundred suns until we part
I believe in nothing
Not in satan, not in god
I believe in nothing
Not in peace and not in war
I believe in nothing
But the truth of who we are

This Is War - 30 Seconds to Mars
[link] (Link to song)

Was going to be a surreal piece for my portfolio at first, but I decided since I got the idea for this picture from this song, I'd enter it in ' contest instead of the picture Sanctuary, because... I just like this one better xD

But my gawd I've never worked so hard on so many scales in my life xD This took so freaking long to make, not to mention how difficult the pose was But I couldn't get the idea out of my head and had to do it nonetheless.

This is my new character Kronos btw I adopted him from here [link] (#5).

He's traveling through time, and views all the wars that have taken place between humans. It saddens him deeply at all of the pain and suffering caused by all the wars, and the inky black darkness of corruption, hate, sorrow, etc are curling out of the scenes where wars are taking place and trying to drag him in, entangling him with it's (metaphorical) tentacles of destruction. They symbolize how no one can escape the effects of war, and every one is affected by them in some way. Which is what the song suggests too, since so many different people are addressed, both opposites and similar people alike, everyone is connected, and everyone is affected by war. Yet he struggles to get out of the never-ending tunnel of darkness, towards a new world, with less fighting, less pain, this brave new world, made by the people who fought so hard for their beliefs and rights. So he keeps moving forward, despite the many forces holding him down, wishing for better times to come.
That's kinda how I interpret the song anyways.

I feel I should wrap this up soon, it's getting to be a very long description.... that hardly anyone will read anyways |D
I'll get a ref and more info on Kronos up when I can c:

Thank you those who read though that, and perhaps listened to the song as well :'D <3 (I edited the lyrics a little to save room, just taking out some of the chorus' that were the same words repeated over and over)

Thank you c: I did this about 2 years ago, and I was debating trying to redo it sometimes for an improvement thing, but I don't know whether I would want to do it traditionally, or digitally. I know digitally would probably turn out better, but I don't know if I should keep it traditional either.

I know a lot of your digital stuff has turned out really well from what I've seen of your work thus far, but traditional is always beautiful too and almost a lost art lol.
Whatever you decide though, if you do decide to redo it, I'm sure it will turn out great. Your work is wonderful.

Kasaurus In reply to OokamiAniyou [2012-01-03 23:40:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but even though I've been doing a lot of digital lately, I'll never give up traditional. Both are just too fun to choose one xD Traditional is just harder to get out, and a bunch of my stuff is boxed up right now as well.
Thanks <3
I still feel like if I make a newer, better version of this, it still won't get as many favs as this one, idk how, but this is still the most faved deviation in my gallery, it has even way more than my very favorites D:

My hard time with traditional is I'm always afraid of messing something up if I continue. With digital it's so easy to go back and redo something that is a mistake.
The only thing is art shouldn't be that way so I should get over that and wing it more with my traditional style sometime. Once I get good enough to make things worth calling art would help lol.
As for you your skill holds up on both levels and I'm glad to see you still stick with traditional as well. Digital should be a new medium of art, not a replacement for traditional. Your and other talented artist's work proves that.

Kasaurus In reply to OokamiAniyou [2012-01-04 04:41:34 +0000 UTC]

I'm that way a lot too, it's so hard to fix some traditional mistakes... and then when you do manage to make a good picture, the scanner kills it :/ I really want to get a new one before doing too much more traditional, I can tell my scanner is dying too by the sounds it makes when it turns on... Sometimes it is better to just jump into something and quit worrying about messing it up, it makes it less stressful and sometimes gets better results even. Experimenting keeps it fun too and lets you discover new ways of doing things that may make it easier on you or more enjoyable as well. Thanks <: I was primarily only a traditional artist, only doing small digital doodles here and there, I really only started to get better with digital and start doing bigger, more serious pictures the past year. And I do consider digital another media, not a replacement. I could never only do traditional, or only do digital now, I have to be able to do both or else I get little withdrawal of the media I haven't been using haha xD

OokamiAniyou In reply to Kasaurus [2012-01-04 04:49:34 +0000 UTC]

Indeed such experimenting is often the most joyful of art pieces, and sometimes the most beautiful.
I hope you get a better scanner soon then, bad equipment could really hamper your work. v.v
As far as me digitaly, I need to get used to my tablet again before even thinking of doing anything serious. I need to practice traditional as it is.
Anyway I'm bombarding your beautiful piece with too many comments. Many apologies my friend.

Kasaurus In reply to OokamiAniyou [2012-01-04 05:09:05 +0000 UTC]

Yep c:
Thanks, I hope so too.. I need to find a good scanner first though that treats art nicely xD
I actually got used to the tablet pen faster than I thought I would, but digital as a media still evaded my understanding for awhile though. Took me forever to learn to properly use different opacities and non saturated colors for everything. Some of my first digital stuff was so bad, omg
It's fine, I've held longer conversations with people on pictures anyways haha. You could always drop me a note too if you just want to chat as well.

I prefer not to give permission for something like that unless the book is finished or something Plus, this is my character, not just a random dragon, so I don't know if I would want it on the cover of a book, sorry. D:
If you want, you could ask again after the book is finished, or you could commission me for something similar and more personalized to your book

Somehow I think I failed to comment on this...
but I don't know why, cause its FREAKIN AWESOME. 8D The scales and fur textures are amazing, but my favorite things are the perspective of his head and pose and the glowiness of the white spots! IT JUST LOOKS SO COOL. *rantrantrant*

Yeah.... the war over in the middle east is just getting more and more messed up, and the president is screwing stuff up more too x.x We need to either finish it, or pull out, I swear Dx

Thanks, and yeah, the scales took forever |D I did them all gray scale before adding the blue x.X

Koi-Lantern In reply to Kasaurus [2010-06-25 00:31:01 +0000 UTC]

yeah, seriously.

how long did it take for you to finish this piece?, or your pieces in general.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kasaurus In reply to Koi-Lantern [2010-06-25 00:39:21 +0000 UTC]

This one took weeks probably because I was working off and on(during school when I had time in classes xD), and I really have no idea how long it took all put together, but I do know this piece took a lot longer than most other pieces did at the time. My pieces in general probably range anywhere from 6-10 hours average I guess... I don't time myself or work on them all the way through at once often. Now I take a lot longer with everything since I'm trying more realism lol, but it also makes it where I can't really sit down and finish a piece in one go without some focusing o-o
My attention span... is not very good it seems c:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Koi-Lantern In reply to Kasaurus [2010-06-25 00:48:00 +0000 UTC]

I have the same problem with attention span...but I think I have a bigger problem with patience--I just not patient enough when I draw to make it neat enough...

it's good to draw more realism because it makes it easier to draw from imagination--I'm glad you're taking the time to do that. ^_^
