I'm surprised they don't have licensed dolls of these guys already. Do they?

They had one when the movie first came out that looked like this: [link]
They're very rare now, and I only know they exist from seeing that photo - I've never even seen another photo of one. That person is the only person I've heard of having one - but I'm sure they must have made more unless it was a prototype.
Here's the website if you want to have a look [link] lots of great info for labyrinth fans

There are no words to properly describe how AWESOME that is. one of the shots there reminds me of the following line:
"Hey! You're only supposed to throw your own head!"

You're an exceedingly strange person. Which is why I like you! XD
Forty a second for eighty years? It takes me longer than a minute to eat one. I'll have to have forty children with similar abilities... and they'll have to have sixty kids each, just to make up the difference... I have no idea of my math is correct.
Forget hotdogs. Now I want a corndog. : (
(Edible Fire Gang! Collect the whole set... then eat them. >XD)

I've never had a corndog. The only time I've seen them is when there is this carnival type thing that happens here each year called the Royal Adelaide Show, and even then they're called 'dagwood dogs'. I guess they must be an American thing. I don't understand the naming of them. Is the batter on the outside made of corn flour?
At the moment I'm eating a ham and cheese roll - which doesn't lend itself to sculpting so well

Never had a corndog. How sad. : ( The batter around the hotdog is made with cornmeal. (It's the best part of the whole thing.) I eat the hotdog first, so I can take my time and enjoy the cornbread part.
Ham and cheese rolls would probably be difficult to sculpt with, yeah. (Corndogs would be easy. You could connect them with their sticks. XD)

Sorry, I wasn't ignoring your comment, but DA didn't send me a message about it because you replied to your comment, not mine, so I didn't see it here.
I'd have to find out where to get hold of some more foam and leather, which I could do in a couple of weeks time when I see the people who know where it comes from. I've asked at the post office about sending wool to the USA and they said that I can do that.
If you are interested, I could make you one for $500 Australian - at the moment thats about $430US, but its different all the time.
The reason this one took 5 months was because I couldn't work on it when my sister was at home - so it wouldn't take anywhere near that amount of time to complete. I could probably make one in a moth or so (after starting it).

The process itself isn't hard, it just takes a very long time. It's one of those things where you really need to see it done in person though, or it was for me at least.

Apparently my mum used to do needle felting, and I never knew! We've got some felting needles in the loft, so she'll be able to show me!

fantastic details! He's wonderful! Just the kind of cuddly looking little critter you need to have in your life to brighten up your days. Wonderful craftsmanship as well. I love the idea of felting over foam and must try that sometime. Congrats.

Thanks!
I'm not sure what the usual uses of the foam are, but its sort of like a sponge, not polystyrene type of foam. But its firm enough to be able to carve with a sharp blade.

Yep, she did. She found a picture of a toy they made when the movie came out but they were rather basic and now very expensive and hard to find because there wasn't many made - though I don't think there are any other like this one!

I took me a while to figure out what to use because velcro would have caught on the wool. But because I had to order a bunch of magnets, I will be trying to make other things that stick together in the same way.

ooohh, I look forward to seeing them then. Are you thinking of making more pieces made out of wool?

kaasha In reply to lachrymosity [2007-12-31 11:11:45 +0000 UTC]
I was thinking about making some creatures out of fabric fur and polymer clay (like the golden mole I made) with the magnets. I started on two animals out of fur and clay yesterday, but I'm not planning to put magnets in them.
I am going to make some more wool things sometime though because I have lots of wool in bright colours like pinks and purples.

Wow, all the projects sound great! I am looking forward to seeing what creatures you decide to make next. As for the wool pieces, do you use a special type of wool? I noticed that the fiery looked very sturdy - is there some type of fixative you use to make the wool hold its shape?

kaasha In reply to lachrymosity [2008-01-03 08:49:31 +0000 UTC]
nope, just wool. It's over foam so the inside is sturdy, but the wool doesn't have anything extra on it.
