It's been looking like he's going to win 2020 for some time even without the impeachment. As much as I don't like Trump, he knows how to work the media, and the dems haven't figured out their mistakes from 2016.

Probably woul have worked if they'd had an actual crime to accuse him of.

It was an attempt at using federal government resources to coerce a foreign government into sabotaging his future political opponent. If that can't be defined as an abuse of power, then he can get away with anything short of actual murder. Though I suspect that even if he shot someone in the face on national television, the republicans would bail him out of it. They'll seemingly do anything for him.

I've pretty much felt the same way since his first year in. The man is immune to consequences.

TheVoidSlayer In reply to Ecchi-Senshi [2020-02-07 00:58:44 +0000 UTC]

He's been immune to consequences for 40 years. He's had over 3000 lawsuits brought against him for failing to pay people and contractors he's hired. That's called theft of services, and he was sued for it twice a week since the 80's. For that alone, the guy should have a jail sentence of a few centuries at least. Any normal person would be rotting in prison if they'd done that.
He's a poster boy for the rich being able to get away with anything.
I have a rule for spotting people with bad behavior like him.
Once is chance. Twice is coincidence. Three thousand is a motherfucking pattern.
He is without question a thief and he does it because he knows he can get away with it.

Yeah, I hadn't heard about all the other con jobs he had gotten away with until he was in office for a bit. Voters don't care about that though. It's all about the party lines.

I'm not unconvinced that he could do literally anything and republicans would dismiss it. The thing that gets under my skin though is that in 4, 8, or 12 years or whatever, there will be a democrat in office, and the people that staunchly defended everything the Teflon Don did for his probably 8 years of office will do a 180 when the shoe is on the other foot. I understand that politicians are gonna lie, but I at least want them to make an effort to be good at it. Throw me off the scent now and again.

TheVoidSlayer In reply to ??? [2020-02-05 14:52:35 +0000 UTC]

I'll be straight with you. I'm pretty sick of both parties at this point.

The republicans are spineless cowards enabling an incompetent, egomaniacal bully because he also happens to be a demagogue that can turn their voters against them. Basically, they're saving their own skins.

They're also hypocrites. Because you just know that if a democratic president like Obama had done what Trump did, the republicans would be doing everything in their power to throw him out of office.

The democrats can't come up with a unifying strategy to fight back against the madness at all. In fact, they've been completely inept at organizing any kind of unity whatsoever.

Both parties have turned the government into a three ring circus, a mockery of what it's meant to be.

I'd like to throw every single one of them out of office and start from scratch. They can play their power games among themselves somewhere that doesn't screw up everyone's lives.

I really wish we the people had a "vote of no confidence" option to throw politicians out of office between elections. Could you imagine how different things would be if they knew their constituents had the direct power to remove them at any time? They would sure as hell be walking on eggshells all the time instead of pulling all the bullshit they do now.

I really don't think this will be the catastrophe as some people make it seem... Something bad may or may not happen. There really have not been any concrete proof that everything is about to collapse. It's just may or may nots...

I want Germany to do it too- I mean, what do we need a bunch of bigots in BrΓΌssel for if we could be making international relationships via normal politics? We don't needΒ the EU, strictly speaking.

"A functioning democracy/republic is supposed to have a difference of opinion.Β "
We did, and the Democrats were outraged that we were even capable of it.
"To be so blinded by devotion to a ONE THOUGHT mindset makes such difference impossible."
Personally, I would love a difference of opinion, but, lamentably, two Parties are in a consensus, despite their immortal hatred for the other, that the federal government is limitless, and that the federal Constitution is just a glorified list of suggestions. Kind of hard to have a 'You do you' attitude when that's the case; when the very notion that government can be anything but centralized and culturally imperialistic is haram.

Everyone who voted Brexit are also "trying to save the country". They won the democratic election. Accept it or move away.

callmesora In reply to Viddaric [2020-01-31 02:56:13 +0000 UTC]

Except, not everyone who voted for Brexit was for "Save the country". A lot of it was "While I don't think we should leave. I'm choosing this option to shove it to The Man! that'll show The Man! It's not like it's going to pass anyway".

Basically, people did it as a form of protest against the government to signify there was some upset in how it was being ran. And not because they actually wanted to leave. They thought it was a safe way to show discourse without affecting anything... and they were mistaken.

There are a lot of testimonials out there where people regret voting for it for that kind of reason. As well as a bunch who learned after the vote what it actually meant.

Have you looked at the visa process for another country? It took me 3 years to move to america and they denied me the first time because of a technical error on their side. Not even to count the amount of money it actually takes, i'm already past the $2000 mark in government fees.

Hi, Hospital employee here. Herd immunity through vaccination saves people with compromised immune systems from dying of an otherwise easily preventable disease. Some people are allergic to a specific vaccine, some might be too old for a vaccine to be effective, or they might be too young. People who would rather endanger someone else because "Mah freedumbs!" deserve public scorn. That's why thankfully places like hospitals will terminate any employees who try to go "Yeah, but I don't believe in getting vaccinated! So that company-wide mandate doesn't apply to me!" bullshit.
