Well, I wanted to draw something nice for my birthday, and I managed to. Ayumi Hamasaki (JPop) is lovely, and decided on drawing her the best I could.I used a pencil, and tinted this blue on Adobe Imageready 7.0.
The scan doesn't do the drawing its true justice, but it still looks nice.

Hey, that's good job with pencils!! Your shadings are cool. Please, don't get a higher contrast in the software, so it will kill some of the lovely traditional media!! (I wanna see some rough paper). Beautiful profile!

You did an excellent job with portraying the texture of the hair.

Ok, I dont know much about drawing, but I do know that I like Ayumi....and that is a really great drawing of her....I like the shading and the expression on her face...

Well 1st off I have to say I hate giving critiques. The person giving the crit always comes off as a know it all or as if they hate the work. So I have to say I am not a know it all but am still learning myself. And I like the work a lot or I wouldnβt bother commenting. Now you asked for thoughtful comments so I looked at it and this is what I can up with.
Scanning pencil work: With my scanner I have to scan twice. I get a better scan on the 2nd scan after the scanner has warmed up. Then I have to take my work into Photoshop/image/adjust/levels. I pull the dark triangle on the right over to the left until it reaches the start of the dark area above it. If you have Photoshop and try this you will see what Iβm talking about.
As far as the image itself: Donβt be afraid of the dark! Contrast is what makes a piece stand out donβt be afraid to go very dark in the areas that call for it! Also let your shadows make the image, not the lines. When drawing people think about painting with shadows and light. I even use a paintbrush to fill in my faces. There are very few hard dark lines on a persons face.
Other then those few tips this is an awesome piece. It has fantastic mood, and the hair gives it life and movement.

This is a very well done sketch. I just love the hair, I think you have captured the life in this image.
The only think that irks me slightly is the darker outline on the face, I think it should be a little lighter, to blend in with the face and skin.

I feel your pain with the scanner problem - pencil drawings just never look quite as good displayed on the computer. Anyhow, I love her hair - it's just beautiful and whispy. The flowers are very nice as well. I really like the pose and the way you bordered the bottom with the ribbon
