Description Luckily my little dogs weren't outside. I have two hawks that are always keeping an eye on my backyard. I guess having chickens doesn't help. I have mixed feelings. I love Birds of Prey and having the honor of taking their pictures. But at the same time, I have two very small dogs that I worry about, and chickens. All of my dogs are inside dogs, but they have to go out some time! So now outside time with my critters it is a bit stressful. The hawks have made attempts at the chickens. What's a girl to do? LOL!

It is truly something special. Although, having small dogs and chickens as I do, it can be a bit nerve racking when these birds pay a visit.

Lovely capture! I understand your worry, I use to have 14 chickens @ my old house and we were worried about weasels, because we would spot them sometimes during the evenings. Though none of them were ever caught by the creeper (thankfully).

I would highly suggest you get your hubby or a friend, OR if you think you can take on this task: to build roof over your chicken pen (that is if they don't roam all over your property and don't have a fence). As much as it makes them happy to be able to roam wherever they please, it's also dangerous for them. If you don't want to cage them up all the time, perhaps let them out only when you are able to supervise their free-time, other than that keep them penned up in generously large outside space, and be sure to have some sort of wire or wooden roof.

I hope this helps?

Good luck!

Thank you! Yes, we have a large coup with a roof that is rat, snake, and critter proof, thankfully. (It cost a small fortune to do this.) I use to let them out a lot more than I do now (daily), now it is more like only weekly because I have to be with them. I never thought about weasels. They sound bad!

I wish there was a way to keep the hawks from my yard, but I don't think there is.
