Description
Woohoo! Roy's app for is done!
Basics
Name: Roy Himura (Birth surname: Lassmeir)
Age: 24 years
Gender: Male
Height: 5'8"
Job: Blacksmith
Animal: Fox
Magic: Fire magic
Properties: Used for utility purposes
+ shields him from extreme cold, aids smithing/cooking
- Unable to be defensive, makes Roy very susceptible to water, short range control
/ Roy is incapable of understanding what 'cold' is because of this magic.
Roy's magic is the only tie he has left to his family. Because of his awkward status as an adopted son to a smith, he has not had a teacher for fine tuning the control he has on his magic. His ability to maintain fire is diminished outside of the smithy. Roy can best control it when he uses it as a contact based power and channels it over touched items only. He has a lot of practice, however, in using it to aid his smithing. He can tell the temperature of the flames with ease if he touches them, and is rather good at cooking, smithing, and warming things close to him.
PersonalityBrooding, harsh, loner, angers easily, standoffish, aloof (outwardly), loyal, daredevil, analytic, detail oriented, romantic, chivalrous
Roy has never been the social sort and usually never smiles. He finds comfort in his own personal space, contented to be mostly by himself, in thought, and pretending not to notice or care about people beyond his doorstep. He can be very abrasive to deal with because he does not hold back his words when he does talk. Quiet by nature and observant, Roy finds details easy to notice, especially about other people when he decides he has to deal with them. He puts up a thick wall of ice around his heart, and likes to act very tough while he hides how he really feels. When the wall of ice gets melted, however, Roy shows more compassion. His tendencies to want to speak up and defend those who can't defend themselves comes out more readily. He takes risks for those he cares for, and can even be considered an unintentional flirt because of how he voices his opinion of others. He still has a temper, and can be easily angered, but the otherwise perpetual glare he wears is replaced by something more neutral once he cares for someone.

History
Roy arrived as an orphaned child from a shipwreck. He was not a local, nor was he even accompanied by his birth parents, who had died in the shipwreck. He was found by a local blacksmith and taken in under his wing as an apprentice once he recovered. Roy had started out reserved, and cautious of his new adoptive father, but soon he found his interest swayed by the metals the older man worked at his forge. The two had an awkward relationship at first, but they came to an understanding that they should focus on Roy's lessons once the boy got better.
The master smith taught Roy all about his craft from an early age, allowing him to use the forge to hone his fire abilities as best he could, since they did not share the same power. While the boy's adoptive father was a little harsh, and did not talk much about himself, Roy found he was a very responsible man, with a larger heart than he let on. With a growing respect for the older smith, Roy was diligent in his practice in order to impress his adoptive father. Now a teen, Roy was excelling at this and soon enough, he started acting as an assistant. He was taught swordplay, strategy, and even cooking under the master smith's wing, but there were odd happenings that began happening once Roy had become old enough to mind the forge himself for days while the master smith was away.
Roy saw odd people near his and his adoptive father's home. Shady figured who would look around the property, or strange patrons would enter the shop, ask for the master smith but never say their name nor what they needed. Roy became suspicious when the older smith refused to answer questions about those patrons. Instead, the old smith started talking of the dreams he had; to forge the world's strongest katana, or to travel and discover a new metal. Given that the smith never spoke of these things before, Roy found himself wondering on what he was missing. Over the next few months, Roy watched his adoptive father very closely, trying to glean as much information as he could about what was going on with the man. He noticed several nights a week, the old smith would leave at midnight nearly, and return the next day with new bruises or small wounds. Anytime the boy asked about it, he was brushed aside, but Roy was determined to understand. He started to search some of the old smith's things, taking risks while the man wasn't looking to get a peek into the old man's life. He found notes, and sometimes very detailed maps of strategically important areas. None of it made sense to him then, but it wasn't long after Roy stumbled across those records that the old smith returned one night mortally wounded.
That evening was the longest in Roy's memory. The old smith was pursued by one of the strange patrons Roy had seen before, and there was an incredible battle that broke out on their property. Roy leaped to assist, but the old smith refused to allow Roy to take part. The assailant and the smith fought bitterly, until the older smith had finally lost his strength, and was slain before Roy. This snapped something in Roy's heart, and he no longer found it to be safe to be open with anyone. After all, he had told those patrons who asked before when his father would return if they asked. Roy closed himself off as the assailant left him once again without a parent. Roy swore vengeance for the older man's life, and to fulfill his dreams, if only to carry on the man's legacy. He became irritable, aloof, and lost his smile following that night, leaving him an angry young adult instead of the curious youth he had been. As time passed and he mourned, he began to push people away from him as a way to keep them from his problems, especially since he was chasing at least one assassin. He blamed himself for his father's death for being powerless and ill informed, but instead of letting that feeling stop him, he began to train with his magic and his sword with the hopes of one day being strong enough to avenge his adoptive parent. Roy still works his father's shop now, even years later after the murder, but he's still searching for answers - searching for the assassin who stole the life of his only family member.
