"What? Name's Kagami. Now go away and quit bothering me, you don't look interesting enough to waste my time."

Name: Kagami
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Height || Weight:  5’9” || 140 lbs.
Species: Kitsune
Date of Birth: 21 December
Nationality: Hoshido

"Stand down!"

Starting Class: Kitsune
Weapon: Beaststone
Weapon Proficiency: D
Unique Ability: Pragmatic [If the enemy’s HP isn’t full, Kagami gets +3 to damage dealt and -1 to damage received.]

LVL: 1
HP: 26
STR: 11
MAG: 1
SKL: 7
SPD: 8
LCK: 2
DEF: 10
RES: 6
MOV: 5
Notes: Kagami does not dodge attacks often due to his low Luck; rather, he functions more as a tank. Good Defense and HP scores allows him to absorb a few blows, while high Strength and decent Speed ensure that he’ll hit back hard. Combined with his Pragmatic ability, Kagami is excellent at picking off injured units.

"You aren't nearly as important as you think you are."

Personality:

Kagami is not a terribly nice person, and is more interested in himself than in others. He’s vain, and takes a lot of care with his appearance, always ensuring that he looks his best. He’s proud, too. He sees himself as capable, intelligent, and important, and won’t suffer slights to his ability, position, or appearance. Unfortunately, that pride isn’t baseless boasting. While he may not be as important to the world at large as he thinks he is, he can back up his pride with genuinely good skills – combat or otherwise – and high intelligence, and looks, too, but that’s more subjective. That said, some might question whether his pride is a method of overcompensating for insecurity or low self esteem, but Kagami would resent that notion.

He tends to be rather lethargic. He’d rather not exert effort unless he has to. Keeping his skills sharp counts as necessity, but in his downtime, he’d rather lounge around than voluntarily do anything as base as work. And so, much of his downtime is spent relaxing, grooming himself, engaging in whatever leisure activity currently has his interest. Not that many hold his interest very long; his attention tends to flit from one thing to another without much care for any of them in particular.

Toward other people, Kagami initially comes across as caustic and mean. He’s not nice to others, especially if they question his sense of pride. He tends to go for sharp comments and sarcastic remarks. He’s not very interested in friendship, especially with anyone below his perceived station. He’s slow to warm to others, but he’s not incapable of it. Liking another person is a side effect of genuine care, and when Kagami cares for someone, he may not show it directly, but he becomes quite protective of them. He comes to care for them the way he cares for himself – sees them as important, and any threats to them will not be tolerated. In extreme cases he could even be called kind and gentle, but he’ll always seem grudging or reluctant.

Likes: mirrors, shiny things, music, relaxing, praise, compliments, reading, painting
Dislikes: rain, bad weather in general, dirt, being ordered around, exertion, challenges, being babied, petting

"I'm busy. Hmm? Yes, busy doing nothing."

History:

Kagami was born in an isolated village of kitsune near the frontier between Nohr and Hoshido. The village was well-hidden in the mountains, away from prying eyes, but just close enough to civilization that the villagers encountered humans on a semi-regular basis. Kagami grew up knowing about humans, and knowing that he shouldn’t trust them. For as much as the kitsune knew about humans, the humans knew about kitsune, and every once in a while a particularly dedicated trapper would find the village looking for pelts. Those trappers tended to be dispatched quickly, before doing permanent damage, but they always shook the community.

Kagami is the second child of his village’s chieftain. His older sister was groomed for becoming the next chieftain from an early age, and she had a lot of responsibilities and work to do with her father and around the community. Kagami, then, was often overlooked. He had the life of privilege given to him by his status, but without much of the responsibility – or attention – that came with being the eldest child. As such, he was largely left to his own devices, which was fine by him, although the lack of attention from his family a bit of a sore spot to him still. When he was younger he wanted to have the same responsibilities as his sister, but his parents, especially his father, tended to ignore him. The lack of attention gave him a fragile self-image and a warped sense of pride.

He made himself useful by becoming a hunter for the village. It wasn’t a job he particularly liked, but the village needed hunters, and people who didn’t contribute to the small community had no place in it. His job helped sharped his combat skills, even if he was only practising against wild beasts and the occasional Faceless. Hunting often took him far away from the village, which he liked. And it was on a hunting trip that Kagami first spotted soldiers on the move. War was brewing on the border.

At first the village remained safe, hidden as it was away from main roads. But as skirmishes became common, the human conflict quickly pushed into kitsune territory, and the kitsune were unable to defend their village properly. With the area becoming unsafe, the community began to disintegrate under the pressure. Many of the townsfolk relocated to a camp further into Hoshido territory with the intention of joining another, safer kitsune village. Some left the village altogether and travelled to human lands, deciding on safety in numbers. Some stayed behind in the old village, refusing to leave their lands; Kagami hasn’t heard from any of those people since then.

Kagami was one of the ones that decided to leave the village altogether. Deciding his presence wasn’t necessary and seeing the opportunity to leave, he did, and made for the nearest human town. He ended up drifting from town to town, well-received in some places as an omen of luck or a beautiful stranger, and poorly-received in others as an oddity or a beast.

He eventually settled along the outskirts of a larger city, making a deal with a landlord for housing in exchange for his services as a hunter, which he thought was a little bit beneath him, but it was an easy way to secure room and board on an admittedly beautiful estate. Once his combat skills became apparent, he was also employed as a guardsman, driving off bandits that would threaten the estate. He made a bit of a name for himself in the area, and ruffians soon learned to fear the half-beast haunting the woods around the estate. Getting rid of bandits also proved to just be more fun than hunting.

He lounged around this estate for a long time, finally developing proper connections to the human world and enjoying his existence in peace, surrounded by people who actually appreciated his presence. Furthermore, distance from his community helped repair his relationship with his family, and soon he fell into the habit of sending regular letters back home.

It was not to last, though. The war was growing closer and closer, but Kagami’s landlord was sure that the estate was defensible and safe, and so no evacuations were made. And then, one summer afternoon, Kagami returned home from a hunt to find the estate in flames and crawling with Nohrian soldiers. He didn’t get close enough to determine if there were any survivors. He almost didn’t want to know.

After that, Kagami joined the war, fighting for the Hoshido army. Images of the Nohrian soldiers marching past his village, invading kitsune territory, burning his estate – they’re etched into his mind. Any Nohrian troops he can kill are Nohrian troops who can’t threaten his family and the rest of the kitsune tribe.

Besides, he’s decided he enjoys hunting soldiers just as much as beasts and bandits.

"Oh, that? It bores me now, I don't care."

Trivia:

  • Kagami started smoking soon after leaving his village and travelling between towns. He knows it’s bad for him but it helps him calm down and relax. He has a small collection of interesting kiseru.
  • He’s always had a bit of an artistic streak but he started painting in earnest once he was living on his estate. He likes painting landscapes, and does excellent lifelike work, but is so lazy that it takes him weeks and weeks to finish a single piece. He usually gets bored of a piece before he can finish it and throws it out.
  • He enjoys reading poetry. He can’t write poetry at all. He’s tried. It was awful.
  • He can cook very well but cooking is so much work. He’d much rather let other people do it for him.

Roleplaying Preferences:

I much prefer paragraph/literate RP to script. As for platforms, chats and Google Docs probably would work best for me. I’m not used to deviantArt RP so I’m not 100% sure; I’m open to trying new things!

"Over already? How dull."
