God Eater + Metroid = Metroid Eater.Hmm... so this won 's Genre redesign contest! That was certainly unexpected; I thought my other piece "Metroid Hunter" ( deityofshadows.deviantart.com/… ) would fare better overall. Nonetheless, I'm very happy and this redesign was fun to do. Samus in general is fun to redesign! Thanks everyone!
Origins: On the offhand comment from DemonRyo , I ended up redesigning Samus in a different fashion. Street clothes Samus: I tried my best to translate all her Varia Suit motifs into an entirely different context-- jacket, beret, goggles, boots. You'll also note there are two variations in her color scheme-- without and without stockings, black or earthy orange (varia inspired) boots. Which do you prefer?
Her weapon is based on God Eater's tri weapon design. It can transform from sword to gun to shield. The devouring form fittingly is shaped like a metroid. It was that or a Chozo head, but metroid seems more appropriate.
Overall, though it's not as flashy as the boxart design of Metroid Hunter, I rather like this piece because of its drastic departure in her design. I hope it turned out well.

Absolutely love this! How you meshed the Varia Suit designs with the clothing is subtle and extremely fitting. The beret is one of my favorite pieces, and how you incorporated the jetpack/boosters on the back of her jacket is very nice. And are we going to mention the Zero Suit symbol tattoo? Very creative!

This is all sorts of interesting and detailed. I'd call that a true Buster Sword. The outfit captures the theme of the armor very well. Though, I also can't help but look at the top, minus the vest, and think of some of Wonder Woman's incarnations. Great work.
Honestly, I like the Earthy colors. Varia/Barrier suit was very bright, but this tones it down without losing it's influences. Just makes me wonder what the Gravity outfit would look like? Plate and mail? Shin guards, gauntlets and a cuirass?

Hmm, good point. Gravity Point could be a slightly more armored tank on her street clothes designs. Also, any similarities with Wonder Woman's design is purely coincidental, haha. I was solely looking at God Eater and Metroid designs. I really enjoyed drawing her vest and tanktop-- one of the main reasons I drew this in the first place.

This desperately needs to be in a game. Like, if they ever made a Metroid MMORPG, this would have to be the Samus NPC. I think I may be in love with this redesign more than out of all of them.

That Chozo sword guard is incredibly awesome. I know of God Eater, but I've never played it properly - so to me, this design sort of straddles a halfway point between PSO and Monster Hunter and I LOVE it. Your creative takes on Metroid and Zelda related redesigns always stun me, this is no exception.

Completely captures the spirit of Samus; I could tell it was her straight away even though she looks so drastically different. All the little Metroid-ish details that you've used are very clever, particularly the discrete placements of the Screw Attack symbols and her shield being the shape of a Chozo's head. I think if Metroid were a newly made series today, Samus would probably look something like this.

I'm happy that the Samus spirit is apparent in this picture and happier still that you caught onto all those tiny details! I tried to incorporate as much of her visual motifs as possible-- the screw attack being a prominent one. The Chozo head shield was also fun to design.
