Description How old is this? I did it the day after the inspiration for Austin's quote came out! Anyway, I colored most of these while procrastinating, which explains . . . Lubbock and such. Ugh, Austin, College Station, and San An are waaaaaaay too pale. Houston really should be a bit lighter, considering he has Scots-Irish along with his Spanish and Mexican heritage.

A few of these were done with minimal research, so any suggestions for designs, character traits, names, etc would be most welcome! Seriously, I love having input on my characters from people who know the places better than I do. Incase you can't read my handwriting, here they are (theoretically) in order, with little tid-bits. Nothing much 'cause I plan on doing actual references for most of them.

Austin, TX: Stephanie B. Bullock. Capital city, not at all like the state stereotype. I'm thinking of changing her middle. She's referring to this: [link]

College Station, TX: Johnathan Ernest Lamar. Huge rivalry with Austin, until recently, that goes way back to when Lamar set aside land for two certain colleges. Also, he lost the last Thanksgiving game! Austin will never let him live that down

Lubbock, TX: Thomas Bud Monterey. He looks hideous, I know, I'll fix the color scheme for his outfit soon. Despite huge religious differences, he's a good friend of Austin. His physical appearance is based off cotton.

Taos, NM: A fairly small town in northern New Mexico, often mistaken for the Taos Ski Valley and Taos Pueblo, which she doesn't mind too much. She's a very creative girl, who like hanging out with Santa Fe, another city with an artists colony.

Waco, TX: For inventing Dr Pepper and having a Mars factory, he's a pretty crabby dude. Actually, maybe that's why, he doesn't get nearly enough sleep and his diet consists mainly of the foods mentioned before. Actually had a pretty rough history.

Corpus Christi, TX: ChristiΓ‘n Kinney . . . no last name yet. A good friend of College Station, bold 'n boastful, resents Chicago being called the Windy City. Enjoys flying and wind surfing.

Port Aransas, TX: Ashley Marie Mercer. An extremely sociable, upbeat girl who hates the winter because no one likes to come to her house then, meaning no parties.

Santa Fe, NM: The only other state capital who can make Austin nervous. She is much like a sociable, outgoing version of San Antonio: religious, authoritative, doesn't take shit from anyone. She makes her own jewelry, often with Taos.

Wimberly, TX: Sarah-Raye Smith. The cutest little town in Texas. I know what you're thinking: Blonde hair + Blue eyes + adorable? Kill the Sue!!! To that I say F*** you.

Fort Worth, TX: Felicity . . . haven't decided on the rest of her name yet. Dallas's sister. Very serious, with a short temper. Dresses like a Southern business woman most of the time, but when she's relaxing opts for jeans 'n tee shirts. One wouldn't guess she likes getting dirty when it comes to ranching.

El Paso, TX: Younger brother of Ciudad JuΓ‘rez. Much closer to him and the New Mexican cities than any of the Texans. Can' stand most of them actually, and resents Texas dragging him away from his real family. He's no fan of the Thanksgiving holiday, because Spanish explorers celebrated Thanksgiving mass near him long before the pilgrims did.

Houston, TX: Samuel Leonardo . . . no last name yet. Personality wise he's much like Austin, just less overbearing. They get along fairly well nowadays, though she can scare the shit out of him. "The Energy Capital of the World", he never seems to slow down. He and Arlington are perhaps the only Texas cities that give a crap about baseball. Known for the Houston Rodeo and the Johnson Space center, he spends much of his free time fantasizing about the former and mulling around the later.

Dallas. TX: Loud, brash, and bold, with a head bigger than his population. He and Houston are thick as thieves, with the form often holding him back when he decides to do something dumb. He's got Southern Hospitality and tries to exemplify when a goof Texan should be, but doesn't always think before he acts. When next to his sister, you can actually see that he's generally friendlier.

San Antonio, Texas: Reserved, authoritative, serious, she gives off a "don't f*** with me" aura almost constantly. Most people see this, and never guess how caring she actually is. She would die to protect those she loves, and continuously gets herself into hopeless situations trying to do so. She never backs down from anything until rendered physically unable, no matter how bad a decision that may be.

Alamogordo, NM: A fairly geeky kid, known for a mass grave of video games and a strong connection to the Trinity Test.

Tularosa, NM: A small, quiet, pretty girl of Apache decent. Commonly seen with Alamogordo, picnicking in White Sands.

Arlington, TX: An athletic, friendly girl who's much less serious than her close neighbors. Home of the original Six Flags, Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and the Texas Rangers Ballpark. Speaking of the last one, she and Houston commonly arrange baseball games for the cities, though the one they had after the 2011 World Series dissolved into her chasing him down with a bat in rage.

Galveston, TX: Used to be a fiery, careless troublemaker back in his pirate days, but was shocked into a long quiet spell after the hurricane of 1900. He started to come out of his shell in the 1960s, regaining some of his old spirit, especially around Mardi Gras. However, he's still kind of stuck in the past, which can be seen in his tourism business, and is spooked fairly easily.

Well there you go! Any suggestions welcome.

How is Dallas generally more friendly than Fort Worth?! Last time I went there I was verbally assaulted by random people on the street! Maybe there was a sporting event that went sour. Or Dallasites and Worthians really don't like each other.

I'm guessing I perceived Dallasians as more open than people from Ft Worth or something, I honestly don't know. Maybe I was trying to overcompensate for my inborn disdain for Dallas at the time by saying something nice. xD These designs are going on 3 years old, and they've all changed significantly.Β

I suddenly have another reason to like being from Corpus Christi. If only the guys here were as good looking as that most of the time.

Well, aside from the horrible roads and construction, I doubt it's really changed all that much.

And yes, Wacoans IS the official name of the citizens.

He wasn't supposed to be at first, but I do like the adorable nerdy look! Just need to fix his outfit a bit. Thanks, I tried hard with Fort Worth, wanted her to be a deceptively pretty Southern woman. Why's it amusing to have a Waco? Well, he is an amusing character. Now I've gotta make a Dublin too.

^^ well outfits can be changed as many times as you want they are just clothes.
You made her beautiful, very southern-y
i just don't think of anyone actually knowing about Waco because honestly most people are lucky to know of Austin in Texas, and even less of other states ><

Well, I'm in Central Texas, so I know Austin very well. The first characters I made were for the "Big Four" cities (buy population), and Austin 'n Dallas have a fun relationship. I found it amusing that there was a city halfway between them! When I read up on Waco, I felt I struck gold!

Waco is the cutest place ever. and they still have an old fashioned soda fountain in the Dr. Pepper museum that works and they have a soda jerk manning it and everything.

Oh my gosh, we must be on the same wavelength because I'm fine tuning a few city/town drawings here. Whoa, where to start? Yay! Alamogordo and Tularosa! They are awesomely huggable, and very pretty towns! El Paso is kind of a cool/rough Old West/military city. San Antonio, I've got to see you one day, and SO many others too! Dallas...meh, I'll come back, but I still don't know if I'll enjoy it. That city is just overwhelming to me! I love the diversity you've given your cities, and even the symbolism as to why they are the way they are. Keep it up!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GryGirl8 In reply to Angeliserrare [2011-11-27 03:38:09 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! Those two were fun, I can't wait to do a full body for Tularosa. Oh yeah, don't f*ck with El Paso. Seriously. If you ever go to San An, bring a small child, they've got an awesome children's museum. Wait have you been to Dallas?! Tell me! Thanks, I do most by demographics or significant heritage, not sure how I got Arlington black though, and as far as symbolism goes I just take whatever seems significant and/or interesting.

I probably shouldn't judge until I really see the whole city. I was actually stopping off at the Dallas Airport because I had to catch a connector flight to El Paso. But just seeing Dallas was...overwhelming. It looked like nothing but urban sprawl and no trees anywhere for miles (and me being from a place close to Mother Nature...that wasn't a good start). And it was boiling hot in Mid-September! It was the low 80's here, but there it felt like the high 90's with all the humidity and lack of elevation! And I very nearly got lost in that airport. Well, I had to take an electric tram to get to the right gate. I've got a nice guy and his grandma (from El Paso) to thank for guiding me through there.

Haha hot in September? Ugh, you should've seen the weather at he beginning of this month- terrible! I usually go to the Austin 'n Houston airports, but I can't say I've heard anything positive about the Dallas one.
Well if it was El Paso you were going to, what was it like there? Again, another place I haven't been to.

Angeliserrare In reply to GryGirl8 [2011-11-27 05:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Ooh! El Paso was...it was rugged, but kind of neat too. The city is out in the desert so I felt a lot better/closer to Mother Nature. I mean it was way different from here, but it still felt nice. It and Alamogordo do kind of have that military bond though. El Paso has Fort Bliss and Alamogordo has the Air Force base/missile range. And I know now from my uncle that, if you can't find something in Las Cruces, NM, you go to El Paso for it.

I mean it seemed very rugged, but nice too. And it was 92 degrees there, but it felt way nicer than Dallas because there was no humidity. And mostly friendly people. I just heard from a lot of people though that the mafia violence in Juarez can sometimes cause trouble for El Paso because the bullets from those gunfights come flying over the border and hit peoples' houses. But that grandma that I told you about before, she said that in the 50's people used to hop across the border and chill in Juarez on the weekend. It's a shame that they can't do that now.
And, when I was in NM I was amazed by how quickly my hair would dry after stepping out of the shower. It was unreal! XD That's about all I can tell you though.

Probably cause it's the most bad-ass piece of land on the f***in' planet!!! Ya yanks got nothin' on us! Just kidding, I'm honestly one of the least Texan people ever, I just liked TX history in school.

We had this thing called square one art in elementary school, and I drew a picture of Texas for mine one year. I knew everything about it then. I really don't understand why I was so obsessed, I was only like 8 too!
