Description Oil on linen
It's about the fear of growing up.
It's that time when you have wanted to be free all your life and then it arrives and it can be a bit of a worry.
The butterfly represents freedom, the chain the teaching of morels, the red cross represents the church made from the blood of freedom and upside down to represent the desire to do naughty things, yummy hehe.

Growing up is such a misleading thing when you're little...it promises being able to do what you want but in the end you just become more restricted No wonder there's a fear of growing up, especially when it's realised that it brings so many more responsibilities and problems.

I do like the symbolism in this...the butterfly being chained to the moral "fibre" of what we're taught, and the upside down's representation of all the naughty things we're often told not to do purely for our own pleasure. I really like the domination of red in this piece - considering it's known most commonly as a colour of passion, it really does hit home how passion does drive our desire for freedom.

Very cool work Graeme...I like it. Consider it favourited

Ah Miss Bubbles the wanderer. Thanks, sorry for the late reply.
I have been painting and nothing else of late, trying to get ready for me next exhibition.
That's a good reaction to my painting, I like what you have written and may use it in my exhibition with this painting if you do not mind.
Thank you for taking the time to write something serious.

By all means, go for it I do not mind in the slightest.

And you're more than welcome. When it comes to your paintings (amongst others) and the detail you put into them I can't just say "ooooh, pretty". It would not do your work justice.

Good luck in your exhibition! It'd be awesome to see your paintings in person...alas, I have the feeling you're not in Adelaide so it might be hard for me to come see

Cool, I'm in Gosford, 1 hour north of Sydney but the exhibition is in Sydney 'Soho Galleries' 4th Feb. next year.

Ahh k...I've heard of Gosford. I've taken down the details, so if there's some small chance I'm actually in Sydney on that date, then I will definitely seek your exhibition out

Thanks mate, I'm feeling very creative at the moment, just wanting to paint all the time.
How's the cleaning up going up there hope things arnt too messed up.

Well I have half ways cleaned up but can't do out the front cos it is a swamp and is under four inches of muddy sludge with my rose garden crushed beneath a big tree. A friend chainsawed away the tree but the gazebo frame is just a snarl of metal and can't be undone so it is two feet high and I have to crawl in there to get to the rose pots...so far I haven't been that keen!
I am athinking about doing a painting but have to resurrect my paints from out of one of the sheds...also under water...more rain on the way too...glub glub!

Go and get those paints and you will forget about your wows, at least that's what I do, I just can't stop painting.
Sorry to hear about all the mess mate.
Hope the rain holds of for you, it only seems the other day it was bush fires.

I want to do something entirely new in painting (for me) and not predraw anything - want to try just letting the lines of the image daw my brushes into them but I am notoriously un-alpha brained so it will take the right frame of mind for me to be able to do that...this rainy weather is stimulating creatively but also it is so muich easier to work with acrylics in damp weather as I am not a fan of retarder! Thanks for encouraging me...one of these days I am gonna get down that way!

I know that feeling, I'm doing it right now and somehow it has turned into a farie but the background is making it's self up.
Not that big on acrylics but some of my students use them so I have to go with them.
Yeah it would be good to meet you, I have a spare room for a couple of days.

Alex the model has that struggle and it is great to paint it as it happens.

But it says on your narrative "fear of growing up". I assumed that was it. However, now need to check it out . . . .
