My take on Underwing and Jeiokha's Character

The annunciation of the enigmatic baby Jeiokha with the Crow Dagu spirit charged with his protection. This is at the moment Jeiokha's life becomes a vessel of the Communion, native to the sacred grove of Vawkuu. He is made known to Vawkuu's creatures that he is to be treasured in order to preserve the life and liberty that the forest knows--and to protect it from the festering corruption Zared seeks to wreak.

Jeiokha, like everyone, is a complicated, fallible spirit who falters in the story. He has yet to know himself at all at this point. His name is in two languages from the leagues of ghosts, the Coa and the Dagu, and means "Life and Liberator - also Purger, Burning."

Jeiokha might have been special in the eyes of both his friends and his enemies, but he, himself, did not want to be special--rather, he wanted to be included, joined to the Earth he wanted to call home. Special or no, his story is one walk of life--but the journey he faced is a universal one for us all--Self-Discovery. The world may try to shape us into anything for good or ill, but we alone have the power to say who we are. We cannot find this power alone--which is why it is pivotal we are taught to Love by the ones who take us under their protection and nurturing.

That is why Jeiokha is a treasure--a treasure that must be found and unlocked by his own self--and shared it with the world around him. Jeiokha is a unique treasure, but is only one player in one part of the world. Each of us is the incarnation of a good virtue, and with Jeiokha, everyone in Underwing shows us that we Commune as a family with a plethora of gifts. None of us has all the answers, but we each hold a part of the big picture--a picture crafted and authored by Love Itself.

Under my wing I protect him.
