He is like in the 'adrenaline' state so he barely feels anything because of that (sadly he won´t numb the pain eternally), another thing to point out is that when he got it taken out it indeed hurt him (so it is not like he is not in pain anyway) plus, take a look to previous pages he states that he feels the pain of his eye. (the adrenaline state just numbs a great part of it)
