Entry for the Sailor Moon redesign contest over at

Along the same lines as [link] . The contest gave me a good excuse to design Sailor Moon the same way. I don't know why more mahou shoujo don't wear armor. It just makes good sense. Besides, armor's badass. I see the set of redesigns as awesome Silver Millennium forms. Less Japanese schoolgirl, more medieval butt-whooping. I tried to balance her canon forms with the whole armor theme--after all, all of her other forms are fairly similar.

Also, I love the rainbow-gradient of Super, so I incorporated that. Tried to balance out the loudness of that by working primarily in pinks otherwise. If there's one issue I have with Naoko's original designs, it's that Sailor Moon's fukus (Eternal specifically, super to a lesser extent) have SO many colors going on, it's really loud. White/silver and pink with a few rainbow and gold accents seemed like a good theme.

Necessity of "practical" fuku is a practical weapon. None of this wand/scepter nonsense. So running with Venus's sword in the stone seiken thing, Sailor Moon's sword is Excalibur (the two are in fact, different, in most myths). It holds the Ginzuishou. I gave it a lotus handle reflecting how the ginzuishou is often drawn.

Oh yeah, and I want to cosplay this. SO MUCH. That's kinda why I stuck with blond hair instead of giving her the silver/white Princess Serenity hair from the manga. I need hair that's darker than my skintone, so a deeper blonde is kinda necessary, and I wanted to see how the color combos would work.

I will cosplay this, I swear. When, I have no idea, but it will happen.

Oh yeah, I tried imitating more of a manga style. Obviously needs a little work, but I'm happy for a first attempt.

Edit: I noticed that I drew part of the wrist armor wrong on her right hand. It's supposed to be two parts--the main wrist armor and the thumb guard. Photoshop (specifically clone stamp) how I love thee.
