Introducing my first and main TouRabu OC, Wakana ୧(๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ ♡ ~!!♡ I did not draw these; they were commissions from the wonderful ChainOfRain ~!! ♡

((The fullbody and chibi were actually done during an exp. batch of comms so aren't available on her main page, but y'all should still give her a watch to keep an eye out for them and for her other lovely arts (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧ ))
I use to play the TouRabu game when it it first came out and immediately fell for my magikarp Iwatooshi <3 , but the game overheated my laptop constantly and caused it to crash a lot, so I had to stop playing T ^ T ,
but then recently, my buddy AltheaDeLeo got me into watching the anime and I fell in love all over again and whipped up this girl for it ^^ <33
I wrote a small blurb about her highlights instead of a full profile, but I hope y'all will still like her anyways ( ´ ▽ ` )b
█「 Basics 」
- Wakana was born during a time of great famine, and her parents passed away from it when she was very young, leaving her to wander around on her own for a few years,
- When she was 5-7yrs, she was caught stealing food off of a shrine's alter by some villagers and was being yelled at by them for it.
- At that time, a wandering priestess happened by and saw the situation and told the villagers to "cut it out" and "shame on them" for yelling at a child like that. The priestess then decided to "adopt" Wakana and took her back to the monastery to live.
- From there, Wakana had a really happy and joyful life, growing up at the monastery alongside her other orphan brothers and sisters. She grew up to be an outgoing, positive, energetic goofball, who is slightly gullible and naive!
- As she got older, the priestesses at the monastery noticed that Wakana had a lot of "spiritual potential" and decided to send her to apprentice under an experienced Saniwa.
█「 the Citadel 」
- When Wakana got there, the citadel was completely empty but she found a note saying that the Saniwa and their swords were on a little vacation and would be back in a week.
- The note said Wakana was welcome to make herself at home until the Saniwa got back, however there was one rule; Wakana is absolutely NOT allowed to go into the sword summoning room "NO MATTER WHAT, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO IN THERE", said the note,
- But Wakana is the curious type so when someone tells her to NOT do something, she absolutely HAVE to do it, so she went in and saw a little glowing paper thing and touched it and then WHOOSH,
suddenly a man appeared and was like,
"Gahahahaha! I didn't notice you since you're too small. I'm Iwatooshi, Musashibou Benkei's naginata! Gahahahaha! Master, I wonder if you'll amuse me!?"
And Wakana just looks at this random man that just suddenly appeared like "oh crap, what have I done ; ヮ ; ) "
- She tried to explain to him that she wasn't his master, and that he seriously needs to go back into the paper or wherever it was he came from Σ（￣□￣；）, but of course he can't do that and just keeps laughing his "Gahahahaha!" laugh that he does XD
- So they are the only ones at the citadel for a few days and get to know eachother - he tells her about his time with his former master Benkei, and even teaches her some basics about using the Naginata in the training room she's probably really bad at it but it was fun nonetheless for her to play around XD
- When the Saniwa gets back from their vacation, they are PISSED and basically chastises Wakana for being "irresponsible and immature" for not following the directions and tells her that she has to do the same chores as the other swords - like tending the fields and horses - until she learns proper discipline etc on her road to becoming a proper saniwa.
█「 Other Headcanons 」
- Because Wakana grew up at a monastery where it was mostly women, she is actually really bad when it comes to dealing with guys in certain situations - for example, tending to their wounds XD
When Iwatooshi gets "badly injured" in the game/anime, all of his clothes rips off like this:
- And one day the Saniwa is giving Wakana her first 'Healing Lesson', like
Saniwa: "First you must clean their injuries with this cotton, and then dress their wounds with bandages etc,"
And Wakana is like: "You mean I...have to touch him ; ヮ ; ) ? Like...on his body Σ（￣□￣；) ?! and chest Σ（￣□￣；) and and a-and and a-and asdfghjkl Σ（￣□￣；）?!"
Saniwa: "Well, yes, how else would you heal his wounds if you don't touch him -.- ? Stop making it weird >.> "
Wakana: "*explodes*" ((she passes out right after that, and the Saniwa gives her a failing grade on her first healing lesson :'D)) - (note: Wakana is definitely not shy around guys or other people!! It's just when the guys are shirtless or half-naked that she gets embarrassed!!))
- Other headcanon that I have for them; Wakana loves picking apples off of trees and other fresh fruits, but since all the fruits are so high up, Iwatooshi will help her by letting her sit on his shoulders (like this ) and that's a thing that they do!!
- She has a total soft spot for the tantous!! Because, Wakana remembers what it was like to be a hungry kid - having lived through a famine herself as a child - she always makes sure that the tantous get first pick when she comes home with fresh fruits and berries (cause they all look like kids to her). And whenever she runs into the tantous around the citadel, she'll say things like "Have you guys eaten yet XD? Let's go find some food together XD!" and things like that -- Imanotsurugi is the tantou that she interacts with most cause he's always with Iwatooshi so she always has lots of snacks with her and stuff for him <3
- Her first name "Wakana/若菜" means "Young Herbs" , while her surname "Ryuujo/柳条" means "Willow Twig" and she's heavily associated with plant and nature motifs!

You did a good thing thinking about how Wakana was before becoming a saniwa I still haven't thought about that :'D
And I can understand that she's a VERY curious xD And I have a question, does she have so much "spiritual potential" that she managed to summon Iwatooshi without a training/properly know what she was doing?
I love what Iwatooshi told her when he got summoned xD is that the actual quote from the game? and Wakana's reaction is priceless xD
Arsh I thought that the saniwa who adopted her was kinder :'D in the end she also yelled at a child, like the people in the shrine--- but in a way I agree with her regarding Wakana's attitude xD
And I didn't think that Wakana gets embarassed around shirtless men XD I don't mean that she looked like the ones who would drool after them, but I thought she was pretty ok with those things, like "I have to do a thing, so I'll do it"...but looking at her past life it's pretty understandable why she reacts like that :')
I love how she is protective and cares a lot about the tantous ;3; I bet she's like a big mom to them :')
And her name meaning is pretty cute! but since you said that "she's heavily associated with plant and nature motifs" I expected some flowers on her clothes ;3;

Awww thank you for such a big comment <3 ! It's totally understandable that maybe Sayomi doesn't have a childhood story yet, the role of Saniwa is so vague in this series asdfghjkl it's hard to think of what is right or wrong cause there are no "base" of how are Saniwa's even chosen, it's like one big fill-in-the-blank thing for us fans XD!! But I really like what you have for Sayomi's time as an apprentice before getting her own citadel <3 !
For the summoning of Iwatooshi; the actual Saniwa was already in the process of summoning him, but she kind of put a 'pause' on it due to her vacation and that's why she told Wakana not to go into the room, cause Wakana's own "energy" might undo the pause(?)
((Cause in the game, when you forge a sword, there is timer you have to wait for it to be done, but then you actually have to click "claim" to get them in your group once the timer is up - they are not automatically appear to your group until you hit "claim" -, so I guess this would be like Wakana accidentally hitting the "claim" button, when the Saniwa was trying to wait for herself to get back to "claim" it -- I hope that made sense :'D)). It's later that Wakana learns how to set up a summoning process etc --
YES, that is actual in-game quote of when you first get him XD ! Good eye for noticing (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧ ! and OOF yes her reaction XD, I think anyone would react similarly if a random buff and handsome man just suddenly appeared out of thin air unexpectedly XD
awww yeah ; - ; the Saniwa at this citadel is a bit harsh, her swords describe her as being "strict, but ultimately she's fair" and she wouldn't get mad without a reason (Wakana kind of deserved that for not listening to the one rule the Saniwa had asdfghjkl sorry my bby T v T - I haven't thought about Wakana's age yet but she's probably 18-21yrs at this point so she should've known better tbh :'D ! (and I think the reason Wakana was sent to this Saniwa in particular was because the people at the monastery thought that this Saniwa's disciplined personality could help make Wakana more mature...)
It definitely takes time for her to get use to seeing shirtless men XD ! Ah, since Sayomi is the 'reserved' type, is she bothered by having to tend to their wounds?? Or is she the "I have to do a thing, so I'll do it" type like you were saying ^^??

Oof, your comment just gave me an idea actually OvO !! Maybe when the Saniwa is teaching Wakana how to choose swords to form a team to go fight the army, the Saniwa notices that Wakana never picks tantous for the teams and is like, "Look, I know you want to protect them, but despite what they look like they are swords, and they can't get stronger if you don't let them. This is your test to make yourself stronger too." or something like that ovo it just hurts her to see her babus hurt T ^ T
OHOHO, THERE IS ACTUALLY A PURPOSEFUL REASON WHY HER CLOTHES DO NOT HAVE SUCH THINGS XD !! Because I have to commission all of my artwork, I purposely give my OCs super simple designs so that the artists wouldn't have trouble to draw them ; ヮ ; ) --- so basically my personal "rule" is that if I can't draw a clothing item or design myself for references (like with flowers on clothes) than I won't make other artists to do it either 'orz ((but with flowers in the background type of art, I am okay with comming that cause that is background and not clothes XD) I also try to avoid making too many things like ruffles, frills, polka-dots, and stripes when I make OCs cause I'm scared it might be troublesome for other artists to consistently do ; ヮ ; ). Wakana's moodboard will probably have hella trees and plants in it though (ﾟ∇^d) !

Yeah that's why I still haven't set things :v In the game -from what I understood- the saniwa is the player so it actually don't have a background story, right?
Aaaaah now I understand :'D It would have been pretty strange for someone that doesn't know how to do it, to summon a sword out of nothing xD
I like how you managed to keep things from the game but still change them a bit to fit an anime-like(?) plot (uvu)b

Wakana's so cute under that aspect ;3; So in the end will she add the tantous in some groups? And would she ask who want to go to battle rather then choosing herself?
That's so kind of you ;3; But may I suggest you to use some patterns and give them out to the people you commission, so they'll be able to use them ;7; In that way you'll personalize(?) your oc and still be able to commission people I think :')~ When will you do Wakana's moodboard? I love moodboards, sorry xD
