Description
Well, as a lot of you know, I like Friendship is Magic, and I like Courage the Cowardly Dog. But, putting the two together is what I can greatly describe a cartoon which I started seeing when I was in secondary school - when I was about 13. And even though some people teased me for liking this show - because the only channel I could find it on was Pop Girl - I didn't care.
Ruby Gloom is the name of this cartoon. A Canadian cartoon that ran from 2006-2008 and even though it only made a few episodes (about 40) - one thing I can say for this cartoon, which I don't think I have EVER said for any other cartoon is that, while it may not be my absolute favourite show, I can't think of a SINGLE episode that I dislike from this. Every story works for me. Every joke I can remember worked for me. Every single one of the main characters have likeable traits - YES, even Boo Boo! I know people usually split opinions on him, but I see him as if Casper had a bit more of an attitude. And while he enjoys pranking - especially Scaredy Bat - the show still establishes that despite all of the pranking Boo Boo pulls on Scaredy and the fact that they disagree on this at times - they do actually establish themselves as friends.
My favourite characters in this show are Misery, Scaredy Bat, Doom Kitty and Venus - but I do really enjoy every character in this show - the only exception is a character that was villainous. Yes, the show only has ONE villain throughout it's ENTIRE run... And the fact that every single episode was put together clever conflicts, dilemmas and morals without the use of villains is something that I praise this show for. Now, look - I LOVE villainous characters, of course - but the fact that a show can entertain me THIS much WITHOUT using villains is a testament to the writing prowess of the show's screenplay writers. The villain in question is a seemingly innocent bunny... And if you thought ANGEL from Friendship is Magic is evil, just wait until you see what he does in the episode 'Bad Hare Day'....
And as a tribute to this show - I've drawn a picture of some characters from the show - AND myself as a character in the show - I'm the Chupacabra you can see sitting next to Frank and Len. Let's call him Chewy.
The characters, from left to right are - Venus, Chewy (fan character), Frank and Len, Misery, Mr Buns (the little rabbit toy next to Ruby), Ruby, Doom, Iris, Poe, Skull Boy, Scaredy, the evil Bunny (stealing a carrot from the groups' picnic hamper), and Boo Boo (ready with a whoopee cushion to give to Skull Boy ). And we can imagine what it would look like a second later.
And yes, the moon is sentient in this show.... It is pretty bizarre, but - eh, I find it funny.
This show is, as I said before, an equivalent of Courage the Cowardly Dog mixed with Friendship is Magic for me. And that's one great combination, in my opinion.
Probably after my review of The Lego Movie, I will be thinking about writing a review for Ruby Gloom, and posting some episodes which I truly would recommend to my friends to watch. I mean, all of the episodes I remember are good, but if I would REALLY recommend episodes to my friends, I'll give you some recommendations right now.
