This is for Lunnika-Horo`s contest "Draw my photo!Photo used: Sylvia curruca
Update: went back and added some darker colors to the background, thanks to lilfixit for suggesting that!

this piece was such a struggle hahaha i tried to pick a photo that would really challenge me and was regretting it like 5 minutes after starting tbh
i know there are some flaws, but i do feel like i learned a lot from drawing this, so that makes me happy
but yeah for this piece, i used coloured pencils on paper, and edited the photo just a bit in SAI to make it closer to the way it looks irl (phone cameras aren't always the best) c:

this is totally beautiful! to me colored pencils are a tough medium so im very impressed. It's a really truly lovely piece. And the fact that you went back and added some things after some critique shows you have a lot of potential to grow as an artist. So many people would shut down at a suggestion for improvement

Great use of color and shading! Great work! I honestly think I might like your drawing better than the original photo.
I will say that adding darker colors to your background might help with your drawing to make the foreground pop and add depth. I looks nice, and you might have to sacrifice detail to achieve this, but I think it would make a lot of difference. There are also some areas where you have blended very well and others where the paper grain is very visible, so if you're going for more realism the next step would probably be to blend more evenly. (It looks nice on the twigs, but on the leaves and negative background space it's noticeable.)

thank you so much for the critique, i really appreciate it c: i was avoiding going too dark, but after reading this i went back in and darkened the background and blended everything a bit more, and i'm so much happier with the way it looks now, ahh thank you
