Description McCoy isn't finished yet but the shape is getting there. He already looks great next to Spock!

aww thanksssss! They're not bad I suppose. I'm still learning... I'm nowhere near the standard of some of the people on here, (and I'm REALLY slow too.. just can't do it fast & accurate at the same time lol) but I'm getting better. Cheers!

What clay did you use?

thanks! I'm glad you think so. It's not actually clay, it's modelling wax. Think candle wax but slightly harder. So you have to melt it and drip it on, then sculpt and carve it

You have my fullest admiration. That is awesome. I am curious how they will look like if finished. Great talent.

You're welcome. Are they part of larger figures or do you just make the heads?

usualll I just upgrade or make custom heads for people's figures, these are hopfully gonna be made into a small run of custom figures though

I keep my fingers crossed that this will work, because they are better than all the other commercial figures of the characters. Really.

thanks! Nothing mass production, maybe a limited run of custom figures though. I'll probably post up details on my website when I know more. (darrencarnall.com)

Well, I am a fan of Star Trek and these are amazing.

Are these for a personal project or are they going to top a doll for mass production?

Haha yeah it was on the homepage when I clicked on the DA logo, what do you make them from? it looks like clay? or wax? I don't know :S

DarrenCarnall In reply to NGraingerPhoto [2010-10-19 15:02:44 +0000 UTC]

yeah it's sculpting wax. It's only my second head using it so I'm still learning.. but it lets you do good detail and stuff. I think there's a pic (or some pics) in my gallery of another Trek head I did (Spock) that shows how it goes from a block of wax to finishing up as a (hopefully) decent looking head. [melt wax.. drip wax on.. sculpt wax... and repeat]

Awesome! When I was little I used to make things out of babybel wax, they were actually quite good
