Description
It was Tom Baker's great Jubilee last month, so I thought rather belatedly I'd try sculpting him slightly differently, to step away from the mad mop of brown curls.Related content

Why thank you, I'm always a little proud of my Tom sculpts.
I'm working on a new one actually which is a little bit audacious and it excites me a lot.
Won't be finished for a while though....

Haha! Thank you very much. It was really fun to do actually. I wanted to do something different. I had the niggling feeling to make an older Tom for a while, I didn't want to make The Curator either, I just wanted it to be Tom because I think he's interesting and mad enough to warrant it on his own.
I'm very happy with it and as always with these things, it looks better in person.

It looks extraordinary in pictures so I can only imagine how good it looks in person. Did you use something somewhat translucent for the hair? It looks it to me.

Yep I used a translucent clay for the hair because I thought it would give it a nice silverly undertone. Or something like that, the rest the sculpt is semi-translucent too lightly painted. I find it works best with older figures, I did pretty much the same thing with John Hurt and that worked terribly well I thought

I seem to remember that on John Hurt but I think the translucency turned out better here on Tom. It looks SO realistic. absolutely brilliant.

But yes, the only reality is that Tom is God. That is it. I am unwilling or unable to contemplate alternatives.
