No, never played, but watched my bro play for a few hours a couple of times and know the general story and most of the characters. I've played chain of memories.

AU is fanfic speak for "alternate universe"
agblag... but it's going to sound STUPID and lame and cliche when i tell you, and that's sad because it is a REALLY superb fanfic in my opinion... gawh... well i guess the most condensed version i can give is that in this high school AU, riku's from an abusive home and met axel when they were kids. throughout the story riku freaks out any time someone touches him other than his cousin cloud (cross continuity YES 8D) or axel, who's sort of his pseudo-big-brother. how i got on the idea of riku washing dishes is beyond me, but i ended up thinking about how annoying it would be for him with his really long hair getting in his face when his hands are too dirty or wet to brush it away, but how if anyone tried to put it into a ponytail for him he'd freak out. but then i thought, well he'd probably begrudgingly let axel do it. but even then it should probably be more like a braid since a ponytail involves pulling whereas braiding is just sorta... stroking and folding XD; gentle and non-reminiscent of people grabbing you by the hair and slamming your face into a wall >>;
even beyond that one fic, i've become really attached to the high school AU that involves riku and axel as bffs, brother-like, ex-boyfriends, or all of the above XDDDD; it's a pairing (romantic, non-romantic, or one-sided YESOMGWANT) that only makes the SLIGHTEST bit of sense if you're in the high school cliche AU, but NYERRRR i love it DDDDD8

...Why would I think you're a freak with no life? Perfectly reasonable fanfic AU. I am on Fanfiction, so I've read a few different things and know how characters are used like that sometimes. It isn't very surprising they would have Riku come for an abusive family, though...

that's true; i suppose usually when you have an angsty character whose angst is based on something supernatural, and for an AU you take away the supernatural element, you have to give them a new reason to be angsty so they don't just look like a douche XDDD
