in my version of the highschool/college KH AU... i like to imagine axel and riku dated for a while, but broke up because they piss each other off too much
but they remain bffs in that love/hate sort of way. and then axel teases riku mercilessly about his crush on the new kid, sora 
but sometimes there are still awkward residual feelings... conflict-licious. I LOVE IT X3
i know other akuriku fans exist because i've found a handful of decent fics and fanarts in various corners of the internet. this is for them
the rest of you can take your biases and kindly gtfo

*scours memory* i think it had something to do with a fic i read where sephiroth was riku's evil estranged older brother and axel was riku's bff, and the threat of seph coming back always lingered but was never fulfilled because author wandered off. so my brain went off on tangents about what would be funny to see happen. i guess

haha, well hmm... i admit i haven't read any so far that i ENTIRELY liked; usually each fic has parts that i love and parts i absolutely loathe >.< i can think of three offhand that had parts i liked, but they're all very different. in one they're bff/exes, the second is severely AU with axel as the lead singer of a band and riku working in a coffee shop, and the third is actually set after KHII but is part of a six-way (yes. six.) that i would rate quadruple X
