Description All done! I hope you guys like this. (If you don't you can at least breathe a sigh of relief that I'm done updating this.) I've been wanting to make some fanart but couldn't decide on a subject. Suddenly I was all like "you know what I never draw? Horses. You know what's horses? Unicorns." And the rest is history I guess. :> I might update the title later but I literally can't think of anything better right now. 


About two hours of diligent work took place between the completion of this piece and the second WIP I shared, just for reference.

Thought I'd give you guys a peek at what I'm working on today. I promised a bit of fanart for once (other than Spyro haha) and heeeeere it is. The Last Unicorn. A strange and lovely movie. I'll update this when I've made good progress/finished work on the colors and background. 

Unicorns. Get hyped. Now before I settle in to work on this I need to move a fishtank from my apartment over to my fiance's. It's gonn' be a mess.



Do you guys like seeing WIPs? I might make a poll to see what peeps think about them but might as well take a sample now. :>

Ohh I loved this movie as a kid <3 It still has a place in my heart.
Really love the way you mixed your style with that in the movie. Wonderful color pallet choice and use of textures on the background. Great pose and composition, too. Just splendidly done!

Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad you think the styles blended nicely, I had a hard time getting Amalthea as delicate as she was in the movie. I wanted to capture the tapestry-like backgrounds that appeared so often in the movie and I think it was a success, I'm glad you like it too.

I really like the background here. It's sort of relaxing to look at.

You can draw Spirit next if you wanna do more horses. Or maybe Pegasus from Hercules.

I was actually thinking of drawing Spirit before I decided to go with Amalthea. I might go back and draw him another time when I get the fan art itch again. C:

how is this traditional? did you sketch traditional then scan it and didn't change the thing it was in when you updated?

Yes that's what happened. The lines are pencil and when I first posted this it was just the plain lineart. I'll update it later if I think of it but I'm on mobile right now.

Thank you! ^u^ I tried to mimic the stylization of the movie (which is so like the art style in medieval tapestries I love it) and I think it came off pretty well! I'm glad you like it too. :'>

Thank you! The heavy stylization of the backgrounds in that movie is one of the things I like best about it! I had fun trying to do some of it here. :>

Ohh, this one looks so pretty. The lines looks clean enough, and it has just the right shape. Looking forward to the finished version .

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid. Preschool even. 
When I found it again as an adult (a few weeks ago actually), well, it didn't hold up well to me. The pacing, the writing, the voice acting, everything is mostly terrible. But this unicorn still looked as pretty and graceful as it looked to me 20 years ago.

Oh yeah this movie has it's problems for sure. I have fond memories of heckling it with my friends in college even while appreciating the nice animation so it's kind of a mixed bag. :b
