Description The lastest in my vectorism series of non-specific semi abstract vector illustrations. I was looking over them yesturday and was a bit surprised to see it's been nearly 3.5 years since the first Vectorism, and 9 months since the last.

I think this is the best one of the series, and probably my best vector illustration generally to date. I like the shapes and the form, subtle and solid. About 2 days work.
Looking foward to a large print of this one.

Thanks to for the pre-release suggestions on the background.

Please remove my piece from your site. It's not so much "featured" as used as part of your design. It looks like you've removed my name from the piece, and the attribution would usually never be visible. (If you didn't tell me how to find it, I never would have).

I love it, it reminds me of Worms game scenery did the game have any kind of influence on your work?

cranial-bore In reply to FirestarterVC [2010-06-23 00:14:18 +0000 UTC]

No it didn't actually. I've only played Worms once that I remember, about 1000 years ago. I'd be surprised if my subconscious were even aware of it.

Thanks for the comment.

which program u used?

cranial-bore In reply to Helix-FX [2007-06-26 11:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I used Corel Draw. Just a lot of shapes with the pen tool, and many using gradient transparencies to create the highlights and shadows.

F'in awesome, question tho what size does you start out with and have you thought about doing a tutorial?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cranial-bore In reply to BIGSHOT-0 [2007-03-04 10:11:51 +0000 UTC]

The size of the image? Well it's a vector so I just create a 1.5:1 page as that's my favourite aspect ratio (has the most print sizes available). The exported image was about 10,000 pixels wide from memory (the max Corel Draw 12 can export)

I have thought about doing a tutorial for this sort of work, it might materialise at some stage. You can have a look at this image in my scraps [link] to see part of my process (although vectorism 7 was never sketched).
Basically the style is made of of heaps of linear gradient transparencies for light and shadow. Use a lighter & brigher variation of the base colour to create highlights, and black or a darker variant for shadows. When you think you have enough gradients add a heap more. Building the lighting and shades gives the form all its depth.

Gotta love the blue and orange contrast... some serious depth in this for a vector... it reminds me of Dali... you have talent to spare

This is bleedin' fantastic. I don't know if anyone's already said this, but it's VERY Dali. If Salvador had a computer....

I must have it! I just need to figure out framing and stuff, how did you frame yours?

Also, I'm guessing that's the Matte finish, are you happy with the look of it? I've never bought a dA Print before.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cranial-bore In reply to cottser [2006-08-01 22:55:02 +0000 UTC]

Yep, mines a matte. My pet hate is reflections on artwork so matte is definitely my recommendation.
It's also been block mounted with a process I think was called a "sandstone laminate". Basically means there is no plastic or glass in front of the image. I'm very happy with that process, the surface is as reflection free as possible.
Obviously I had the block mounting done locally, in Australia, or postage would have cost a fortune.

The dA prints are very good, you really see the lusciousness when you unroll them.
