what erks me isnt just the lack of good school systems as a whole but the fact that they are being asked to do more than their institution should i.e. teachers are asked to be nannys parents nurses, etc. yet are given on disciplinary ability to do so this whole no child left behind crap combined with the socialist stance that it takes a village to raise a child is the bullshit thats bogging down our educational system...
we simply need more responsible parents for one thing people simply dont think you need to pass tests and own a license to drive a car be a certain age at least to vote smoke get drafted n shot at for your country etc. but you theres not one set of prerequisites for being a parent, thusly you end up with more wards of the state than the state can or SHOULD be expected to handle...and who gets the blame when they make bad grades...not the kids, but the teachers....since when is it ethical to hold another person responsible for one's responses and lack of work ethic?

agreed. and there is the lack of discipline in the classroom since the teachers have virtually no authority due to sue-happy over-bearing parents.
the problems are legion. The solutions are simple but hard for liberals to embrace.

I agree. And they aren't payed very well considering the stress of the job and the amount of schooling required, or respected in society that much. And they're blamed for everything. =/
Exactly why I would never want to be a teacher.

Wrong, when you adjust for benefits along with all the days off they get, teachers make more than scientists and even some doctors.
And of course they're blamed for it. They run a coercive monopoly that basically kidnaps our kids and indoctrinates with all this garbage and the parents have their hands tied as their taxed so mercilessly that they can barely get any quality time in with their own families.

Why should they be paid during the summer? The point is, that "underpaid" stat just based off yearly wages and is not adjusted for hours worked and thus is misleading.

No, tis actually true. They do make more than many kinds of scientists and doctors. Maybe not the big time doctors but to say they're underpaid begs the question "Compared to what?"
Facts proven by science? You mean like creationism that the right loves to try and squeeze into the science room? yeah, let's not be getting all holier than thou. The right is JUST as guilty of sneaking their propaganda into the classroom as the left is.
Ignoring isn't an argument. Once upon a time, it was common for one parent to work and one to stay with the kids. Nowadays, unless you're married to a millionaire, it just simply cannot happen. And of course, schools love to dish out homework by the ton to further intrude on family time even though there is not ONE shred of evidence that homework adds anything productive to a child's learning. It's nothing but meaningless busy work.
Schools are shit and have only gotten shittier despite having more tax dollars pumped into them than ever before. Only in a government run industry do you get more funds the more badly you fail.

They shouldn't be paid during summer, I was pointing out they don't since you said they get so many "off days." And it's underpaid in comparison to the amount of schooling they go through before they get the job. They require a lot of schooling, most jobs requiring that much schooling pay better and don't cause as much stress.
Creationism? Teaching creationism in science classrooms is bad... Propaganda? What are you talking about? Please explain further.
They do not 'love to dish out homework' on children. They are required to. It takes up a lot of their time to go through it and correct it. And it is helpful. Repetition helps you learn things faster and better.
Your last paragraph? I totally agree. It's not merely the fault of the teachers, though I do admit that some teachers are better than others. It's the way the whole education system is set up, really, that makes it fail.

Watch the vid, not the case when you adjust for hours worked. Going by yearly salary is just as misleading as saying women are paid less. When you adjust for hours worked and by position, you find it's just simply not so.
"Creationism? Teaching creationism in science classrooms is bad... "
Kindly do not repeat my point back to me as though it were yours.
Well let's see...schools LOVE to distort history as the prime example. I had a friend who was assigned to do an essay about how the new deal affected the US and he made the very valid argument that it prolonged the great depression and overall impoverished the country. He got a straight F with no explanation.
America's destroying of the German economy after WW1 which set in motion the events that led to the rise of Hitler? Never touched.
And don't even get me started on that fairy tale they tell about how the bombing of Hiroshima was neccessary because the Japanese would never have surrendered otherwise. They were willing to surrender but even if they didn't, that doesn't justify mass murder.
Makes you learn things faster and better does it? Then explain why grades are worse now despite there being more homework assigned these days.
Sorry, there is just no evidence to support that claim. Until it is fact, it is fiction.
The rule of thumb: Humans like learning. Our brains are addicted to it. Learning should be fun. If it's not fun, you're doing it wrong. And I can't think of anything less fun from my childhood than homework.

What? I think you're confused.... I don't think creationism belongs in a classroom... I never said that.
And schools do not "love" to that. Bad teachers, maybe. I've submitted many essays that had a different opinion than the teacher reading them and still gotten a fine grade except for a few mechanical errors.
They are worse because kids are lazy and aren't motivated to do them, and follow the lead of people like you who are so strongly against it.
And yes there is evidence:

I agree with your last paragraph, though. Learning should be fun. Unfortunately, it's hard to make something fun that has such negative connotations.

Ha! The teacher doesn't even have a single Voodoo item! XD
Disturbing as it may seem that I know this, shrunken heads originate from the Shuar indians in South America. I can only imagine how many people I must freak out with that useless trivia. XD
