You modeled that yourself? Very cool. Are you accepting any job offers?

I did indeed model that myself.  Do you have any job openings?

You betcha dude. So here's the deal, I'm going to be doing some signings promoting the next issue of my comic soonish,
and I was thinking how much it would rock if I could get a replica of the main character's guns produced for sale or display.
Do you think you could model something like this? It's kind of a pipe-dreamy idea, but it would be pretty freaking awesome.
Naturally I could produce some detailed design sketches for ya.

gotta love people who put effort into cosplay

This is ingenious! I am trying to replicate the removable blade, and am considering using bike brakes, but that's all I've got. I don't suppose you'll consider explaining the mechanics of the removable blade part?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ClothBender In reply to CrystallineX [2014-11-03 18:21:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's pretty simple: the blade just slides in and out!  The fit is tight enough so that the parts stay put.

This is amazing, I hope I can save up enough to get a 3D printer it would make cosplaying so much easier.

3D printers are great for cosplay.  You can work on your costumes while your printer makes your prop!  I love it.

Would it be cheeky if i asked for the 3D file you used to print these?
Cheers.

Technology is amazing XD Actually, I don't have a 3D printer or anything but do you think that brakes taken from a bike could work? *hides in a dark corner*

ClothBender In reply to Cheshire--Fox [2014-03-24 19:32:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, bike handle breaks will work.  I've actually seen people use those on their 3DM handles before.

(No need to hide haha)

Thank you! And what about... a bike handlebar for the part that is around the hips? ^^' (I swear, I'm gonna dismember a bike these days XD)

I thought 3d printers were expensive? How'd you manage to do it?

It's a long story haha.

(And yes, 3D printers are expensive)

Woah o.o it looks so detailed!

I'm assuming that the blades are detachable for this one? I'll be making a Levi cosplay really soon and I'm interested to know how you plan to attach the blade. :3

Ah, and if you don't mind... may I use this picture as a reference to build my own? This is the most detailed grip that I've seen so far

ClothBender In reply to 1HikariNaito1 [2013-11-29 02:32:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the blades are detachable.  There is a slot in the grips to slide in the blades and two holes where posts will hold the blades in place (hopefully this will work...)

I don't mind you using this as a reference.  Good luck with your cosplay!

Interesting... can't wait to see the blades in action!

And thank you When I get my blades started, I'll share the link with you too

No.  The blade will be 3D printed as well.

Alexander941 In reply to ClothBender [2013-11-29 01:43:29 +0000 UTC]

Will you spray it with spray paint that looks like chrome, or something else?
It would probably be much cheaper to laser-cut it from steeel, but i dont think the grip could handle the weight

btw: How much was that grip? Must have been at least 80€, or did you print it at home?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ClothBender In reply to Alexander941 [2013-11-29 02:26:19 +0000 UTC]

I am going to either use water transfer film or sanded airbrush paint to create a brushed steel effect.  As for the steel, it would probably be cheaper, but I would imagine that much of the detail would be lost (unless it was made up of multiple layers and assembled like a LOM 3D print).

I did print this with my own printer, so I am not sure how much it would cost to print through a printing service.  However, your cost estimate is probably right; I could easily see this costing over 80 EUR.

What printer do you have?
The Replicator?

ClothBender In reply to Alexander941 [2013-11-29 22:55:36 +0000 UTC]

I actually have three printers: a Mendel Prusa, a Makergear M2, and an Objet30.

This piece was printed on my Objet30.

Which one do you think is the best for printing prototypes and scale models of such?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ClothBender In reply to Alexander941 [2013-11-30 19:26:54 +0000 UTC]

The Objet is by far the best of the three for practically any application.

How much did it cost?
I read something about $20.000.

I hope they get smaller and cheaper
I read about the Bucccaneer which will sell for something around $400, and fit on a desk quiet neatly (at least they say so), it will also be very quiet.
